Need Help with Brake Lights on 99 Civic EX
My brake lights are no longer working. We have checked the obvious things like the bulbs and the fuse under the hood. We have even checked the continuity of the brake light switch and it appears to be working. For whatever reason, the power is not reaching the bulb in the back of the car. We have looked at a couple of different wiring diagrams. One of which shows some sort of relay (J/C C442) that is supposed to be mounted under the right kick panel which we cannot find (the relay). Another doesn't show a relay at all.... This is my daily driver and anything that you can do to help us figure this out would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rachel

hmmm , i'll do some digging on your relay location.
You need to find that and test for power there.

I found this so far on a info site ...............
I found the harness plug behind the interior panel was burnt up due to having a bad connection.
Answer
plug was on the driver side, you have to pull the rear seat and the panel to get at it.

Thanks, but that's not it..at least I don't think it is... We checked the wire for power in the wiring bundle along side the door as it heads back to the rear of the car and there was no power there so it is either the phantom relay or something else under the dash before it gets there.

Re: (Rachel's 99 Civic)
check the fuse under the hood AND under the dash????
sometimes they look good until you test them for continuity with a meter
then you find the truth...if it's not the fuses check for 12volts+ at the plugs at the taillight housings....if you're getting power there....it's gotta be something in the bulbs and/or housings

should you have power at the brake pedal switch and out of this switch, but no power in the rear while the pedal is depressed, then you must trace the brake wire down the kickpanel towards the rear of the vehicle.
keep tracing the wire back until you find the problem in the wire. if you probe the wire in spot A then move 6 inches down on the same wire and no longer have power...that's where your problem is
