I'm looking around for a mild turbo kit for my D15 1994 Civic. I really do NOT want a huge amount of boost but I would like to see 185 HP or so if possible. Anybody have any experience with the above kit and/or know if that kit has pretty much everything one needs to get the turbo up and running?

As a note... my engine has 110k miles and burns no oil at all as far as I can tell, it also does not leak any oil. So, should it still be rebuilt prior to adding a turbo even if it is a relatively low boost setup?

Pointers to FAQs or things of that sort are cool too.

i can say i bought a turbo kit off ebay for $900, and i absolutely hate it, nothing but headaches. u get what u pay for. save your $ for something better is my advice

listen to the man. i am in the process of replacing every single part of my ebay turbo kit. piece your own kit together. promise?

99.98% of the time EBAY=CRAP

boost isn't cheap...why can't people remember that??

yes, turbo kits are pricey, for example go to full-race.com
they had a pink turbo civic on pinks, that is about how much a really good kit should run.

The full-race kits are WAY too powerful for me, again, I only want 185 HP or so out of my Civic. Just a bit more go without making it a race car!

The next kit I was looking at was the D15 kit from Greddy which runs about $1500 or so. Us this a reasonable kit or should I try to put together my own deal instead?

Thats funny A buddy I know is running the full bseries kit(old school) one 11's 1/4mile for the last to years and no problems?

piece your own kit like everyone has said saves more money than buying a whole kit and you can make just as much power or even more

Yeah honestly i think that someone should create a search button or something so users could see if there is 4,025 threads that have already asked the same faking question...oh oh oh and they should maybe try and make it red so it stands out.

Or maybe you could find something better to do with your time than to patronize someone for asking a question. If you don't care... don't respond, it really is that easy.

I know all about searching but consider that perhaps I don't know much about FI and thusly bringing up 1000 topics with the search can simply be more confusing than helpful. So, if you don't feel like helping me out then you can skip this thread instead of wasting your time.

I got plenty of useful responses, so thanks to those folks. No reason to be hostile when someone asks a question that has been covered before.

If you only want to spend $800, buy that. If you can spend $1500, buy the greddy kit.

Honestly, I'll spend what I need to in order to get a good kit that does what I want. What I want is only around ~185 HP to get me roughly the amount of "go" I was used to with my BMW 325i... which is very conservative, so I wasn't really sure what I *should* be spending to get that.

If it's $1500 then I'm okay with that. But I wanted to be sure that they ebay kit wouldn't do what I wanted before I spent more than necessary.

the greddy d16 kits fit the d15. it just takes some different pinning on the e-manage

One more question in regards to the ebay auction kits. I read through several of the e-bay threads and did not see mention of the "JDM Sport" brand kits that are in some listing -- they use a different looking turbo and a cast manifold rather than the welded pipe style. Is this any different from the other crappy e-bay kits or just another crappy kit with with a new label?

Search turned up nothing on the "JDM Sport" brand so my first guess is that it's junk and I should just go with the Greddy kit.

The only thing we have had trouble with really is the manifolds. Had good luck with the BOVs, intercoolers, wastegates and turbos (ssac aka xspower). This is on a couple hondas and one BMW

But yes, it is better to piece together a kit, I'm in the process of doing so....again...

Thanks for the advice. What is the best way to start piecing together? Meaning, what part should I "build around" so the speak? I suppose the turbo itself is the most intuitive option.

What turbo should I be looking at for low boost and, hopefully, boost starting at a very low RPM level? And for that matter, what is the most cost effective manifold that supports AC -- keeping in mind I don't need it to support a high boost system.

For low boost a log style is fine to use, and for your D15 I would prob use a small T3 like garrett .42/.48 (off saabs, volvos, turbocoupes, chryslers). You can get one with an internal wastegate so that is one less thing you have to buy. For a BOV the ssac tial 50mm copies work great, or you can use a 1g DSM bov they work really well too. Get some 1g DSM 450cc injectors and a ssac bar and plate intercooler. Intercooler cooler piping you can make from U-bends from jcwhitney or elsewhere.
