1998 V6 Manual Tranny Swap
Alright guys so I have decided to be one of the very few who is attempting to swap out the auto tranny and put in a manual tranny. The problem is I dunno what kind of tranny will fit in there, if anyone has any tips or anything like that please respond back. Like what I would need to swap it out. Thanks Guys

First off this is not a swap to attempt if you have never done a swap before and second it is very expensive. Just from your question and the fact that you don't know what transmission you can use I am gonna go ahead a guess that this is a little out of your scope.

good job on shutting the man down........why not answer his question?
a CL-S 6 speed will fit and it will take a lot of work but if you are really wanting to do this, go a head.
Personally I would do a DR Evil swap because in the end the cost will be about the same and there is NO WAY that the CL-S transmission will handle 500 hp.
Dr evil will run you about 4K installed

I was just being realistic, not shutting him down. And what makes you think that a cl-s 6 speed won't handle 500hp? Show me some documented proof that it can't handle it.

1998 V6 Accord Project Car
So never mind my first post about the manual tranny swap, after a little thinking and talking over with friends, a couple friends and I decided to make this car our project car. So rather than just swaping out the auto tranny and trying to put a manual one we decided maybe to get a H22 Motor to replace the 3.0L stock motor the 98 V6 Accord comes with. And I don't want people baggin on me saying I don't know what I'm doing, if your gonna say S*** like that just don't leave a comment at all please.
My main question is since there are many different types of H22 Motors I was wondering which H22 Motor would fit best in the 1998 V6 Accord.
H22 Honda Prelude VTEC 1992-1996
H22A Honda Prelude SiR (JDM) 1997-2001
H22A Honda Prelude 1999-2001
H22A Honda Prelude Type S (JDM) 1997-2001
H22A1 Honda Prelude 1997-1998
H22A1 Honda Prelude VTEC (USDM) 1993-1996
H22A4 Honda Prelude (USDM) 1997-2001
chances are we probably might just go to BlackTrax to have this done, but if you guys have anything to add please let me know if you can.

Re: 1998 V6 Accord Project Car (SKSyphen)
Well this is an option as well as swapping the transmission, but if you really want to do this then you should stick with the v6 especially since the chassis you have is made for the v6 as well as all the wiring harnesses and the accessories. You could easily do a Comptech supercharger and the Dr. evil trans swap or do the 6-speed swap, but that 6-speed swap as I said before is very difficult.

Re: 1998 V6 Accord Project Car (-RedneckDave-)
hi dave, so yeah what I was kinda wondering was out of the list of motors I listed, if you had to choose which one would you put in? I just wanna get some helpful hints on what to do, I will slowly rebuild my car and the first thing I wanted to do was get a new motor and manual tranny, so yeah if you had to choose out of those motors which one would you choose?
Thanks so much man.

Re: 1998 V6 Manual Tranny Swap (SKSyphen)
actually this question is for anyone, if you were thinking of changing a 1998 v6 accord to a manual transmission what motor might you guys use? or should I do as dave says and keep my 3.0L V6 engine and just get a manual tranny?

Let me rephrase and expand on what Dave is saying. All the accessories for the V6 are on the opposite side of the engine bay, as compared to the 4-cyl, which includes any of the H22s you were considering. Because of this, if you really want to swap to an H22, you should start with a 4-cyl model. It would be much, much cheaper this way. Also, the difference in acceleration won't be worth the cost, IMO.

what exactly in a CL-S 6spd tranny cant handle 500whp?
i konw ppl laying down 500wph on stock accord and lude manual trannies i dont see why a cl-s 6spd manual tranny woudl be any different from most other honda manual trannies.

and for the original poster, i think you might have just as much trouble putting in a 4cyl motor into your v6 vchassis, because of all the stuff ppl have already mentioned. plus i think the subframe is differnt between the 4cyl and v6 bodies too. not positive on this one though, so i'd loook into it.
if you really want a manual that bad, go trade the car in for a manual 4cyl. your going to go through more trouble than it is worth to get that car to a manual.

LOL!
So quick to talk. First off no one has put the CL-S tranny to the 500hp test yet so who knows. Second, same goes for the Dr.Evil Tranny. No one is near the 500hp mark to even prove that that tranny can withstand it. Only one car out there is abusing that tranny and he's no where near the 500hp mark.
The Turbo 6spd guys are doing fine it seems and they are near 400hp numbers already on low boost. Id much rather abuse a manual than a auto tranny. The only problem with the 6spd has been the 3rd gear problem but its seemed to be solved by using the GM fluid instead of the recommended one.
Nowhere in hell will the Dr Evil run you $4k installed. The tranny alone is $4k and the groupbuy I know of is only at $3500. Ehh, they still cant come up with enough people for the GB so good luck on the $3500 "deal"! Thats still without labor and core charge. Used ones are far and few.
To the OP, good luck on the H22 install. Ive never seen a v6 with a swapped H22 motor. Id just go with a J32 motor and the 6spd. Its so much more baller status than a H22.

Re: 1998 V6 Manual Tranny Swap (Legendaryyaj)
LOL YOU know what Legendaryyaj LOL I think your the smartest person alive, I TOTALLY forgot about the J32 Motors hahahaha, never even once crossed my mind. yeah your right, forget the H22 in a V6 Accord... I think now ill start shopping around for a J32 Motor, but that leads me into a NEW question, since my Accord is a 98 V6 model will the J32A3(2004+ Acura 3.2TL) fit in my car? If that doesnt fit will the J32A2( *2001-2003 Acura CL Type-S, *2002-2003 Acura TL Type-S) fit and if that doesnt, am I just left with the J32A1(1999-2003 Acura TL) series?

Re: 1998 V6 Manual Tranny Swap (-RedneckDave-)
Dave thanks a lot man, I was wondering something, how come you chose to recomend using the 3.2 CL-S motor rather than the 3.2 TL-S motor? Just curious.
If you could also maybe give me a rough estimate of how much the motor and tranny run for that would also be very helpful. I can always find out labor prices from someone I hope haha.
Thanks agin man

So its probably better to get the J32A2 03 CL-S motor and the tranny to match with it right? like you said in your ealier comment?
I been trying to find prices on ebay and craigslist for these motors and trannys but cant seem to find any...

They are hard to find and even harder to find with the motor and trans still together.
