I have used them on quite a few 88/89 Civic and CRX Si's. I am sure that they will work on anything that uses the same rear brake shoeas these models. That covers quite a few models

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Tyson &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">its simply a weight issue. the friction lining is still the same iron, the casing which is the bulk of the material is aluminum. its up to you if you care if you want less weight back there.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I like to think the aluminum disipates heat better than the cast iron. Also, being very "old school" I like the looks of finned aluminum drums, through my alloy wheels.

Keith, who always wanted Alfin finned aluminum drums for his Triumph...

I'm going to redo the drums on my 91 civic si with the insight drums.... anyone have suggestions for parts to do drums? I figured minimum i order the 2 drums and 2 sets of shoes.

I've never done drums before... any other parts I need with the work?

"Horseshoe" clips and maybe wheel cylinders if needed. If they've never been replaced before, do it. Adjust and bleed regularly.

Update on this: Looks like RockAuto has Insight drums for $13 a piece. Not sure if they are aluminum, but the specs say they weigh 5lbs, and the crx/civic drums are listed as 7.5lbs. All the rest of the specs are almost identical (ID, Height, Friction surface, etc).

5lbs of un-sprung weight savings? Yes please!

CENTRIC Part # 12240015 $12.87

Wow, and it seems they have now removed all of the Insight drums from their parts catalog... Damn, and I was going to get some of these soon!

Edit: This place may have them, although it says they ship from the manufacture, and you will probably get a notice saying they are discontinued...

Ongoing update:

Rockauto dropped these to $7 on clearout recently. At that price I had to see so I ordered 4 of them and they are unfortunately steel. Just started my return but they are still using the same Part no and infographic for the aluminum ones even though what they send you is steel.

Weight is 7.58lbs per drum

Thanks for the update. I meant to check back on this--too bad the aluminum versions aren't available for that price.
