Default 99 si rear disc conversion

i found someone selling the rear discs from a 99 si it comes complete with break lines caliper rotor control arms bearing and was wondering if i had to change my brake booster, power booster, master cylinder or anything else to make it work. and it was only the rear 2 so id leave the 2 up front stock and buy all new rotors. but im not sure if that would work or not.

plus he wanted 350 just for it, is that a good deal?

What kind of car!?

No you don't need to change the booster, or the MC for rear disk.

And no $350 is not a good deal.

just so your aware, "EK" still really doesn't help us. it doesn't tell us if it's a dx or a ex. And there were no EK's produced in the US.

Hard to say without seeing what your buying first hand. Has anything been replaced? New pads/rotors? TA bushings?

I wouldn't pay more then $200. I got a hell of lot more then rear disk, and didn't pay that much.

If you got a coupe (non ABS), you will want to get the proportioning valve to go with the rear disc swap. If the seller doesn't have this, you can use the one from an 99-00 Si or any 97-00 Hatchback. They all have the same part number for the prop valve. Just not one from a Sedan or non-Si coupe.

As 98Civdx said, you don't need a bigger MC or BB.

Don't confuse him. Those prop valves are not the same as the Si. Only Hatchbacks have the same prop valve as the Si.

I got my rear disc setup for $150.

I got lucky, but I see them frequently for $200-250.

And as others have said you do not need a new prop valve. And be sure you re-use your civic toe compensator arm instead of using the integra or the one from whichever car you get the trailing arms from.

Is the post above showing disc and drum models using the same prop? I have no idea what a CX/DX/HX comes equipped with?

Yes it is. CX, DX & HX all came with rear drums. Si is the only one of those with rear discs.

Weird as hell. Is that the 40/40 valve? Over here the disc cars run 40/40s and the drums run 40/20s (off the top of my head).

NO IT IS NOT!!!

The 4040 (not 40/40) specifically identifies a 90-97 NON ABS Integra valve. It looks nothing like an EK prop valve. The 98+ Integras have a similar prop valve to the EK, but they are ALL ABS so those valves are still incompatible. ABS valves only have 4 ports on them.

The EK prop valves are not marked with the old style numbers like 4040 or anything like that.

90-93 Integra 4040 prop valve:

94-96 Integra RS 4040 prop valve (same valves different bracket):

EK non-ABS prop valve (6-port):

Yes you should get the prop valve to be safe.

No you don't need to mess with the front discs. You can do that later if you want. If you did, then all you need is a bigger master cylinder (not booster).

What about the EK ABS? looks like the non ABS but only four ports. Also dubbed 4040 over here AFAIK.

Nope.

I don't know why they would call it that. US EK's with ABS all have rear drums (coupe is oversized) and there are still no stamps on the valves. Plus it's 4-port design would still makes it useless for 99% of rear disc swaps (which are typically NON ABS cars). Perhaps the folks in your area are misinformed.

I'm starting to think the Si is the ONLY EK in the US that even came with rear discs. I went on HondaPartsNow and couldn't find any other models.

I am aware they aren't marked like the older ones, (found this out the hard way), but with that said are they a 4040? Lets just use the SI, sense it's factory rear disk.

Yes as I say I'm not familiar with US models and their equipment, here in the UK we get the SOHC 1.4 EJ9 with drums, SOHC 1.5 EK3 with drums up to 98 and discs 99-00 am the DOHC 1.6 EK4 with rear discs. Your Si is an EM1 and is the same as an EK4. As far as I understand it, all the discs get 4040 and drums get 4020s, and there are ABS and non ABS versions of both.

That's only as I understand it for the UK market.

Well, 4040 is just a identification and doesn't really mean anything. It's not a ratio or anything like that. Therefore we should not call it a 4040 valve. So lets just say you want a US model CX, DX-hatch, HX or Si prop valve and leave it at that.

Ah, I had no idea you were in the UK. This is making sense now.

But why would you guys call them a 4040 and 4020 valves if they are not marked? I'm confused about where this number is coming from. Are the valves marked in the UK?
