Re: DIY CRX JDM B16 Vtec solenoid gasket change
Hey there. I have a 92 Integra GSR and I have a very similar leak. I have oil accumulating just under the distributor, dripping down the block onto the tranny. A lot of mechanics have told me that my head gasket is leaking, but one guy who worked on fixing my leak said that one or more of the seals are leaking. So.. He fixed the seals, and put some silicone for extra hold. (He also replaced a seal too). I drove it a lot that night, and drove faster than usual. The next morning, the oil came back! Now I am worried; what if it is the head gasket thats leaking? OR, what if its both? In any case, I will have to fix the seals first, but is it ok to drive with these seals leaking oil??? I eventually plan on doing it, but will it be alright for a few months??

Re: DIY CRX JDM B16 Vtec solenoid gasket change
Hey guys,
I'm in Australia. Thanks for the info so far, but I'm a little confused. I have a '91 CRX SiR and will need to do this same procedure because it's leaking down to my head.
Will I need both the VTEC Solenoid and the Upper Gasket, or is it just best to do them both anyway?
I've contacted a guy at a Honda Dealer who does lots of sales and connections for my CRX club and he's ordered in the solenoid so I might ask him for the upper gasket also, but do I need the NSX solenoid/gasket? I told him I need one for a B16A...
thanks,
Andy

90-91 Integra are OBD0
92-93 Integra are OBD1

Re: DIY CRX JDM B16 Vtec solenoid gasket change
yea thats the right gasket for the jdm b16 but they are trying to charge 70 bucks for the nsx gaskets when honda only charges about 30 for theirs...

Re: DIY CRX JDM B16 Vtec solenoid gasket change (mperezkr)
i know this thread is about the jdm b16a, but my question is, would this gasket go for the b16a2 also? i've changed my vtec solenoid gasket 2 times alrdy and it has still been leaking after 1-2 weeks of it being installed. on the picture to the right, where its circled in red, thats the spot that it has a lil rip at.
the gasket that i have been installing, # 15825-p08-005.

[QUOTE=iluvmyda;40326237]anyone know the correct part number for this thicker top gasket???
Hey guys, new problem. I have a b16 head out of a 95 del sol that I have on my LSvtec. (I am only using this pic as reference to my obd1 part)
The problem is, the new smaller gasket did not come with the small circular screen. So......I used my old circular screen.
It then started pissing oil from the new small gasket + old screen. I took the top of the solenoid off again to look at it. The old circular filter made the seal bump up and not seat flush. I took off the circular screen and put the top of the solenoid back on. It sealed! and completely stopped pissing oil.
Has this ever happened to anyone?
What will happen if I keep running the car without the small circular screen?
Did Honda re-engineer this gasket not to have a small circular screen?
Please chime in. I am afraid to drive my car around.
thx
B

You should get one with the screen as one piece as soon as you get a chance. I would assume you would be fine driving it for a while as long as you have clean oil.

Re: DIY CRX JDM B16 Vtec solenoid gasket change
Ok well i have noticed oil running down the block near the tranny so i traced it and ended up being under the vtec solenoid. So i ordered the upper gasket and head to solenoid gasket from acura and decided to replace them today. So here we go:
First locate the vtec oil pressure sensor and vtec spool sensor and disconnect carefully.
Then locate all 3 10mm bolts holding on the vtec solenoid to the head.
Use a 6" extension to remove them all and push on the lower radiator hose to remove the rear bolt.
Once all the bolts are removed gently pull off the solenoid, it may be hard to get off but you'll get it.
Plug the 2 holes in the head with the tips of a rag.
This was my dirty little guy after i removed it. I am going to clean it later, you'll see why.
So here is the original JDM gasket.
I used a pick to gently remove the old gasket. It was so brittle it fell apart!
Now look at the top of the solenoid, you will see 3 more 10mm bolts. Remove these to replace the top gasket.
Here is the original JDM top gasket.
This a side by side of the old gasket and new gasket i ordered. Simply oil up the new gasket and replace. Put those 10mm bolts back in snug. You will tighten them once its on the car.
I now cleaned the solenoid since its less chance of water getting in the top part!
I couldn't locate my steam cleaner so i degreased it by hand and toothbrush for now. I will get it better with the steam cleaner later.
Now after its all cleaned, oil and replace the head to solenoid gasket.
Go and bolt it back on. Tighten all 3 10mm bolts slowly in a criss cross patternt. Once they are all snug, tighten them so no oil will leak out. Retighten the 3 10mm bolts for the top gasket nice and tight!
Reconnect the oil pressure switch and vtec solenoid connector and check your oil level.
Start the car and check for any leaks, if none then test drive it and make sure again when you come back that there are no leaks. If there are just tighten those bolts some more like i had to do and now your done
