2003 Honda CR-V grinding noise when AC is on
My honda is brought new in 2003 and now have 96k miles on it. I started hearing grinding noise in the hood couple days ago when I turn my AC on. There is no sound if I turn off the AC.
I took it to the dealer and they said that my compressor shot metal debris throughout the entire ac system and therefore everything have to be replaced. They quoted me with a 4600 price tag.
I have not fixed the problem yet but I want to know if I do not fix the problem and just not turn on the AC at all, will it lead to engine damage or other serious complications or would it be fine.
Thanks

I am not sure about in the USA, but in Canada, Honda has made the AC compressor issue a 'recall', meaning: you don't have to spend a dime, they HAVE to cover the cost of the repairs. Look it up.

Your AC system is a closed system outside of the functioning of the engine. if you do not turn your AC on you risk no damage to your engine.
You also have very little risk if you chose to turn it on. but the noise you're hearing is from your bad AC Compressor.
