Re: 92 Civic VX daily driver build
They are supposed to be a LLR tire. They also have a designed inner rib that the tire is supposed to ride on but because of the narrow width of the 175 tires, mine dont have that rib. O well. I bought them shipped for $212 total so anything is better than the mismatched and bald tires I have on now

Re: 92 Civic VX daily driver build
OP, have you considered anything like a partial grill block or a front air dam? I can imagine you want to keep the car aesthetically pleasing so I won't recommend anything like side skirts or wheel covers, but the front air dam + partial grill block would probably net 5-10% mpg gain.
Oh also, if you don't mind the more firm ride I would recommend max sidewall on your tires. That's another 2.5-5% mpg.

I like this project. Its a lot more practical than most the stuff thrown around today.
Thing is clean, practical, cheap, and good for money saving.

Duplicolor wheel paint and enamel clear coat.
Stripped the wheels bare, primed with etching primer, a few light coats of high build primer, sanded and smoothed, 4 coats of color, three coats of clear, wet sanded some imperfections them two more coats of clear
Buffed with a 4 inch buffer and and cutting compound then waxed

Re: 92 Civic VX daily driver build
more pictures just for interest.
I had some water leaking issues into the cabin so multiple times I stripped the interior to find and fix leaks. In the mean time I insulated and sound deadened the interior.
also some random issues, crank pulley bolt sheared off. Im guessing from the bolt being torqued and over torqued 100 times for the past 5 kids who owned the car prior to me purchasing it.
Blew some coolant hoses.
I am a turbine engineer so I travel to power plants all the time. Drove the car to Milwaukee from Pittsburgh. achieved my best average tank MPG of 56.6 MPG over 400 miles.
The pic of the mpGuino shows my average daily commute to work over the 51ish miles one way

Re: 92 Civic VX daily driver build
Nice car and great work, but why not make the CRX your mileage *****? Don't they have a higher potential than the VX?
I have a teal 92 VX. The previous owner put aftermarket lift supports on which leaked and aren't the right thread pitch, and he swapped in an R134a AC system but did it stupidly, missing brackets and managed to crack the heater box and dent the evaporator. I've just about gotten everything sorted out. CRV evaporator, EX cruise control, tilt, intermittent wiper, headlight warning chime, minor weight reductions, extensive tune up and other reconditioning. I get 46 city but only 41 on the highway (80mph with the windows down lol).
I'm happy with the mileage but I'm tempted to swap the Z1 and wheels into a CRX, swap the diff and 5th gear into the CRX trans and hopefully approach 60mpg. I have a GSR engine I can drop into the VX and leave it otherwise OEM.
I converted a CRX to OBD2 and swapped in a D16Y5 for a friend, but she's only getting high 30s to low 40s mpg. I think it's because she's new to driving stick but I wonder why you got another platform rather than tweaking your CRX.
Can I have your old VX injectors? I'm having a hard time finding any. I prefer to have them serviced to buying new or aftermarket, but I can't afford any down time.

Re: 92 Civic VX daily driver build
The CRX was too small and not as practical as a DD as the VX. I tired using it. I drove it for 6 years and tried to daily it for almost a full year on this long commute. No AC was the killer.
The CRX had a SOHC ZC with a DX 5 speed tranny an at best got 45 MPG hypermile driving the crap out of it. The VX gets 50 without trying.
The CRX's trunk might as well not exist, I hit my head every time I drive through the parking lot at work going over speed bumps and there is little to no room for anything in that car besides your own butt.
The civic is 100 times better as a commuter car. I spend 3 hours a day in a car so it was the better option.
I do have my old VX injectors. do you want them?

I'll take the vx over the hf anyday. I love me some eg hatchbacks. Great work on the vx and also updating your post. I didn't realize you started this a while back.

I also prefer to roll around on my stock vx wheels since I go to school straight from work some days. I have a difficult time sourcing the original 165/70/13 size locally so for the last 10 years I have been using a 175 width. I was lucky enough to find a civic at the local salvage yard with 1 vx wheel so I use it as my full size spare that is especially handy for long trips. I also had a small leak from when I replaced my windshield 15 years ago and Rhino lined the whole interior myself a few years ago to help "seal it" since I am keeping my vx forever.
Whom did you buy the mpguino from after all?
How difficult was the install?
Great job overall!

Re: 92 Civic VX daily driver build
When it rained on mine or I washed the car the floor would fill up with about 2 inches of water it leaked so bad. I don't know how the previous owner even drove this car, if they even did. Took me a full year to tinkering just to get it road worthy again
The mpGuino is very easy to install. I bought it off of Quezacotl on economodder
No one one here has any resources for a civic unless you build a mini me or ditch the d15z1 for something else so I spend a lot of time on there.

Re: 92 Civic VX daily driver build
I'm 6' 1" as well but I cannot gangster lean the seat to be comfortable. I need to sit pretty straight up. The EG has at least 2 inches above my head to the head liner where as the CRX had about 1/4" inch.
The Eg also has different ride and suspension dynamic characteristics that make it more of a car and less of a go cart, making it easier to daily drive.
I extended the EG seat rails so I can move my seat back an additional 2 inches so my legs can lay completely flat if I want them to so I have tons of leg room.

Re: 92 Civic VX daily driver build
What a nice looking car!
I'm confused... with rotors, if you paint them, wouldn't that interfere with the brakes??? do you have to use some special kind of paint? they look so nice. mine are totally rusted. : (
I'm totally new to all this, and don't really know what I'm doing. I tried to use Ospho on a control arm on my Chevy, then painted with rust-oleum, but part of paint chipped right off when I was re-installing. Your metal looks so nice. I'm definitely missing something. maybe you used spray paint and I used a paint brush... would that matter???
thx for any help. I know, I probably sound pretty hopeless. lol
woops... just saw post #30 - is that how you painted the rotors also??? thx.
