Need some advice on motor mounts issue
Hi ok so basically I installed my new motor a few weeks ago and it is running fine. I installed some stiffer motor mounts because I am planning on putting on a turbo in the near future. The problem I am running into is that when I turn my AC on the car feels like its going to vibrate off the road when I am idling. It is fine when I am just driving. They are the red innovative ones.
What is my best option here. I need to keep AC in the car as it is my daily driver and I have a baby in there sometimes. I would like to have stiffer motor mounts but maybe not as stiff as the ones I have. I am thinking about going back to stock mounts just to have a comfortable ride but they will probably go bad when I put the turbo in.
Any advise as to what brand to go with or am I just stuck??

poly fill your two front torque mounts, and leave the other three oem. should keep the engine from rocking but wont be as stiff.

Re: Need some advice on motor mounts issue
my new 60a red innovative steel ones hardly make any noise and very similar to stock. before these i had bought some used red billet ones & had to get rid of them.. people who sat in my car were constantly asking what was wrong.
is it possible you got the wrong stiffness? they use red for both their softest 60A & hardest 95A urethane.

I have the Hasport mounts in my GSR and they vibrate horrendously at idle, especially with the AC on. The solution is to flick the AC off at idle.

Yeah that's what I have been doing. I just hate doing it because it's a pain for one and the heat right now is brutal so shutting it off about kills you.

Re: Need some advice on motor mounts issue
I purchased them used, but the urethane inserts were not worn. Although they were not marked, I think the inserts are the 62A durometer based on the feel of the urethane. I have some silicone rubber in my lab that is the same durometer.
I removed the top two mounts and replaced them with OEM for daily driving and left the rear one due to the difficulty associated with removal. I will reinstall the top two for ITR Expo 12. That engine was in there solidly with those mounts.

Re: Need some advice on motor mounts issue
I have Hasport 62a mounts on my GSR swap in my civic. The vibration is bad at low rpms especially with the ac on. I did raise the idle up about 100rpms and it helped some. Another thing I have seen people do is use stock mounts except for the trans mount so they retain some stiffness. I have thought about putting a stock mount on the rear mount and keeping the other two Hasport mounts to see if that will help. It might be something to play around with and experiment which mount would be best stock to reduce vibration.

The B18C1 does not have a balance shaft and a four cylinder engine has a second order vibration in the vertical direction. That is most noticeable at low RPM.

Yeah it would be nice to know what combination provides the most protection for turbo stress while making the most comfort for daily driving. Obviously it would not be the the best for either application but I am looking for the best combination of comfort and strength. Tall order I know. Maybe I should switch to the 62a inserts if people are having success with them.
