It's beyond hard. The Toyota 1600 spark plug cover is a nice touch. Just wish the gas lid was flush... and that the car actually belonged to me. :D Still, that car is sexy as hell.

Is this the same car?

There was nothing cut for the tranny . Johns makes the full mount kit for this swap , no need to cut the fire wall for any tunnel.

too bad shifter placement sucks when doing this swap. You have to cut a hole in your transmission tunnel. not too big of a deal, but i've never been a fan of cutting up my car, lol. still a very nice swap.

wrong, i just did this swap several months ago with his newest mount kit, Even then you still have to bang out the tunnel a bit and cut the shifter hole back about 4 inches or so. It doesnt suck though. You can do it cleanly and put a console right over it if you want. It doesnt move the shifter soo far back to where its not comfortable to shift or any of that.
Johns mount kit is awesome none the less and he has worked hard to make these swaps as easy and pain free as possible. Big ups for him. Definetly needs a real photo shoot and so does the one I did for a buddy and my buddy did a fresh paint, jdm body kit and corners, Shaved engine bay. Only the essentials in the wiring are still left. I basicly built a completely new body harness to just keep the essentials to still be street legal.
Very nice car, always loved it.

I would prefer the shifter moved back those 4 inches. In my GTS with the stock tranny I always felt like I was reaching to get it into 3rd and 5th gear.

I'll take that MR2 half-cut!
sick cars! most would say the Honda swap would be means for death by flogging in the Toyota, but i have to say innovation>purity. that has to be a fun azz car.

There are still several Toyota purists in the AE86 scene. More and more engine swaps have been gaining popularity, both from within the Toyota line of engines and from outside.
3SGE, 3SGTE, 1UZ-FE, 2JZGTE, 1JZGTE, SR20DET, CA18DET, F20C, F22C, 13B, 20B,
4AGE 20V, 22RZ-FE. At one time there was an individual on Club4ag who was developing a swap for a K20A into the AE86...but I don't know how that ended up.
