Temp gauge not working...
Did a search with limited results...
my '95 Civic Dx temp gauge does not work and the local parts houses cant tell me which sensor I may need to replace...
the water temp sensor or air temp?
any help would be much appreciated ~
TIA

Re: Temp gauge not working...
Look on the cylinder head under the Distributor, you will see a sensor going into the head, its a 1-wire. This sensor gives feedback to the temp gauge on your gauge cluster. I have seen the connectors break off the sensor where it hooks on.

Re: Temp gauge not working...
Thanks for the help! Especially the diagrams!!
I'm heading your way tomorrow to look at some wheels/tires, will be glad to buy you lunch for the help!!
Thanks again ~

Re: Temp gauge not working...
in my experience that temp sender under the distro can become cooked and brittle from the motor heating up over time and break off quite easily.

Re: Temp gauge not working...
Coolant level is good in both...looks like the gauge so I'm looking now for a new cluster, maybe one with tach.
thanks for the suggestions!

Re: Temp gauge not working...
Ok...
replaced my cluster with another from an LX and still have the same "no temp gauge" issue...
I have checked the #15 - 10 amp fuse, replaced the sending unit and now the cluster with the same result...actually looks like the temp needle drops when the key is on.
any more ideas?
TIA

Re: Temp gauge not working...
What was the result of the Sending Unit Test and Gauge Test prior to replacing either component versus now. I presume that your test results then and now do not fit with either being the problem. Instead, it sounds like a bad wire or connector between the sending unit and cluster.

Re: Temp gauge not working...
grounding the sending unit wire resulted in no movement of the gauge when ignition switched on
impedence reading of unit itself was off a little but no it didn't indicate as being bad but I replaced it anyway...
I visually inspected the wire as far as possible without tearing into the harness and didn't see any break

Very good, but I think you mean resistance here.

Very good.

Here's where you went wrong and didn't follow the instructions in the diagram. You usually can't tell visually whether a wire is bad. You need to use your multimeter to test for lack of continuity between the ends at the sending unit and cluster.
