timing belt broke on my 2000 crv, i replaced belt, tensioner and water pump. it started up just fine, i drove it for an hour with no problems. later that day i started it up again and it was running fine but the cel came on. checked the blink codes and came up with the random misfires on 3+4. could it be the valves need adjusting? wires, plugs and distributor all look good.

i shouldnt say the timing belt broke. about 10 teeth were sheered off of the belt, the belt was still in one piece.

decided to take it for a test drive again today just to see if the cel comes on and it did so i took it to get the codes read. it came up with p1399. it still drives fine and accelerates nicely just when i come to a stop it idles super low, but when i take off its feels fine.

so i plan on doin the valve adjustment today and if that doesnt do it i will adjust the distributor to try and time it, if that doesnt work i will go buy a compression tester and test compression. if the compression is bad i can get a scope to shove in the cylinders to check around. any other ideas? thanks again.

ok did the valve adjustment. all but one of the exhaust valves were pretty tight and all but one of the intake valves were pretty loose. while putting the spark plugs back in i regapped them they were at .049 instead of .044. i took it for a test drive no cel and is running fine.
i am gonna test drive it again tonight and see if the cel comes on.

drove it again last night still no cel.

drove it for a couple hundred miles now. still no cel, runs fine. considering this a success.

Probably valve adjust did the trick....higher compression engines tend to require more frequent adjusting
