1996 Civic EX (Stock) -- Need help finding replacement VTEC Solenoid Base Gasket...
I've looked all over the internet for this thing, but it seems that Honda decided to stop selling this gasket after 1995...
I was able to find the other gasket and the o-ring for the oil pressure sensor/switch...
I found them both at www.hondapartsunlimited.com, and the part numbers there are:
15825-P2M-005 (Spool Valve Filter Assembly)
91319-PR3-003 (13x1.5 O-Ring)
Here is the URL of the page with the diagram showing the parts which are #11 and #21; the VTEC solenoid base valve is not shown...
http://www.hondapartsunlimited.com/p...nder-head-vtec
Would I be able to use the VTEC solenoid base gasket for a 1995 Civic with the same engine (according to the FAQ here, it is engine D16Y8)...?
Which parts website would be the best to buy that gasket from in the USA...?
Thank you very much for your time and your help.
---Sincerely,
---Ghetto Joe

Thank you for the suggestion... I went ahead and sent them an e-mail...
Hopefully, whoever answers it actually knows what they are talking about,
and is not just a sales person trying to get me to buy something from them...
If anyone here has been through this before or knows for sure, please leave a response...

Yes, I do it all the time. You can do the same thing with 98-02 accords by looking up one for a 97.

I'm pretty sure I have both a Z6 and a Y8 vtec solenoid here, if I get a chance tomorrow I'll check and see if the base gasket is the same. I know the complete Y8 unit is different and unique to itself, but I'm thinking the top half and gasket is the same.
Just as an FYI it's pretty common for Honda to not list sub parts of an assembly in newer vehicles even though the identical part can be ordered separately for an older vehicle.
In other cases (trailing arm bushings, '01 - '05 Civic lower ball joints) the parts simply aren't listed at all but do have part numbers published only in technical service bulletins.

Thank you for your help... I found the 1995 Civic EX Solenoid Valve Base Gasket (36172-P08-015) on the same website...
If you can check tomorrow, that would be awesome, just so I know for sure that it will work...
I really need to get my brother's car fixed as soon as I can...
Thank you all for your advice and your help...

Re: 1996 Civic EX (Stock) -- Need help finding replacement VTEC Solenoid Base Gasket.
I went ahead and ordered the 1995 gasket (36172-P08-015)... It came today, and I just finished putting it on... No leaks (for now at least)...
There was a slight gap in some spots between the inner edge of the groove and gasket, but it fit in there all around the outside edge...
Here is a photo I took of the new gasket and the old gasket side-by-side... They are very similar in size, but I think the new one is a little bit thinner...
My brother's car is also leaking from the distributor next to the engine...
From what I read in the FAQ, I should only need to change the O-Ring right...?
And, just to make sure, that would be part #6 in the diagram at the following URL, right...?

Thank you all, once again, for your help and advice...

The o-rings are exactly the same, one is just old, shrunken, and smashed.
The distributor itself could be leaking past the shaft seal. You have to remove the cap and take a look inside. Look for a trail of oil from the shaft seal. If it is dry inside, just replace the outer o-ring.

Re: 1996 Civic EX (Stock) -- Need help finding replacement VTEC Solenoid Base Gasket.
Thanks for the info... I guess I will go ahead and order the Distributor Cap Gasket as well...
As for the VTEC Solenoid Base Gasket, here is a picture I just took of the gasket inside the groove...
There is a slight gap between the inner edge of the gasket and the groove...
I added green arrows to show exactly where the gap(s) are because they are hard to see...
Hopefully, this is semi-normal, and the gasket/o-ring will compress and expand to fill the groove over time...
