How much is K20 swap total cost? B or K series
So I have been trying to do some research on this subject. I am contemplating weither to do a built b18c swap or a reflashed k20a or k20z swap in my 1999 jdm front ls. I have an idea of how much the b series build and swap will cost for me to do. But I was wondering if anyone has done a k20 swap lately and how much the total cost in parts would be. I know this has been covered before but the newest thread I could find was done in 2008. Parts are more common now and cheaper now for this swap due to its up-rise in popularity over the years. Once again any help would be greatly appreciated.

here in florida people usually spend about 7000, thats basically already having the shell, getting all the stuffed needed, putting it in and getting tuned

Re: ???? How much is K20 swap total cost ???? B or K series ?????
no one in their right mind would sell that swap complete for $1500
if the motor has solid compression and the trans doesn't grind it would be on ebay getting a lot more
but, if it's stolen, you don't sell it nationally since you risk a lot more time by creating a federal case if it ever comes to light
as for the op
a nice B series type r swap complete will cost you $4000
for $5000 you can get a k20 type r complete with a 6spd LSD trans. you don't need to spend money on kpro or any of that if you leave it stock. now in order to run that K you'll need the mount set and more work in the wiring. all said and done i don't see why a k20 type r would be more than 6000 with all the needed parts.
however, that's still 50% more than the b series type r that merely requires a vtec wire
perks to the k20 are
6spd
more power
will almost certainly be lower mileage and live longer
newer
perks to the b18c
it costs 50% less and is an easy install
resale wise it's a toss up. 98% of the time a base model gs/ls/gsr will be worth parts value when you go to sell if it has a nice swap, nice parts etc.

Re: ???? How much is K20 swap total cost ???? B or K series ?????
For the k-series that have true vtec, with cost of motor and trans included, right around $9000 to do it right. You could probably shave off $1000 or more by finding deals on used parts, but you get the idea. I priced out the complete cost down to the last nut and bolt about 6 months ago to do a k24a2 swap and it just wasn't worth it to me in terms of cost when compared with power. When you get right down to it, a k-swap is one of the least cost effective power vs money swaps out there when you initially do it. The motors themselves aren't that expensive, its just all the **** you have to buy to put one in an integra or civic. Its just nickle and diming to death if you know what I mean by that. You get $3000 or $4000 into the motor then you need another $5000 worth of crap to actually make it work. You could go a lot faster for less.
EDIT: Here is a really rough list I made a while back. I couldn't find the detailed one I made. It will at least give you a general idea.

Re: ???? How much is K20 swap total cost ???? B or K series ?????
Well one of the reasons I am leaning more toward a K swap vs a B vtec swap is the altitude where I live makes it very hard to make good numbers with a b series swap. I am looking for around 250 whp In a daily driver and I believe (correct me if i am wrong) that is much easier to do with the Kseries platform vs. the Bseries. Plus having the novelty of owning a JDM front K20z1 swapped beast never hurts. IMO A Kseries with 250 whp is much more reliable the a Bseries with 250 whp. Even if they are both built right. And the K is cheaper to get to 250 then the B is. But thats my opinion. This topic could go on for pages.

A friend bought a K20R swap back in '08 for $5.5k and $1k brand new KPRO for his EP3. It was a plug and play project but in this case not for you. So you're bent on having 250?

Re: ???? How much is K20 swap total cost ???? B or K series ?????
it doesnt cost no 7,000 dollors..if u do ur research u can swap a k20..k24 for cheap..if ur frugal and can diy on some things it would help allot on the money side..you can do away with allot of the unecessary pieces..use allot of stock pieces from both cars..stock rsx computer with bypass..and i believe a few companys make swap kits..some starting at $1000 to make any k series work in a eg dc ek chassis..
and i own a 05 type s with mild na work..and it pulls almost as hard as my 95 supercharged gsr..10lbs
i would love to see some one port and polish a b18 head to flow as much as a stock k20 will..
and lastly it comes to preference on what u want..
A clean mild build() b18 $3000-$4000..you want all the baller parts..$99,999,999.99
A clean mild build() k20,k24,ect.. $3000-$5000..you want all the baller parts..$100,000,000.00
anybody can spend a crap load on something they dont need too

one more advantage of the K type r that i almost forgot is oil burning. so far EVERY single b series type r that i've come across burns some degree of oil. the gem mint ones are a quart every 2000-3000 miles while most are a quart every 1200 or so.
i know rumors of unicorn b18c engines exist but i still have yet to see the type r in a b series that burns no oil.

I spent some time lurking k20a and the consenus was to buy a totaled car and take what you need. The swap locally would cost 5-6k thats for motor and mostly new parts. Just not cost effective in terms of power to $$. Spend the money on a turbo'd b series. A b20v/t could be had for the price of a k series swap. Since you already have an ls you could do a rebuild geared towards turbo or if you want all-motor.

you will spend 4-5k on all the turbo gear, tune etc
you will also spend $2500 rebuilding the bottom end with good parts
a new itr head is $1500 or you could rebuild yours if you had a good one. add in a clutch, good motor mounts and you're just under 10k for a 300-350whp build
more whp with this build is just e85. could push past 400 to whatever the block could handle.
still it's realistically 10k all said and done unless you wait for quality used or roll the dice on what someone else is selling
then again it's a realistic 6-7k for a full K type r swap running and driving

as someone who's done a turbo b series before it's realistically near 10k

still are going to drop 4k on a quality turbo setup though by the time it's all done. maybe 3s if you shop smart. a go autoworks kit, wideband, boost gauge, tune, clutch
it limits how far you can push the engine using an LS but the whole thing could be done under 5k including the motor
