Anti-theft system reset. Need help ASAP please.
hi guys,
So I have a 1996 civic DX, and I managed to set off the theft deterent system when I disconnected my battery. I don't know why it would do this, but it did. Basically when I reconnected the battery the hazard lights, dash illumination light, and some little red light to the left of the steering wheel, started flashing. There was also a beeping coming from the dashboard.
Does anyone know how to reset this so that it's back to normal? The car has all manual locks, and no fab/keyless remote. It's funny because I specifically bought this car as basic as I could to avoid problems like these, and here we are. lol
Also, it has an after market sony head unit in it. Could this have anything to do with this? Perhaps some anti-theft device in this? I know these 6th gen civics had a problem where if you removed the stock head unit the car would basically "shut down" it.
Thanks

The only thing the radio has to do with the alarm, is that the alarm was installed so they wouldnt steal the radio. What are you talking about the car would shut down if you remove the head unit?

Probably aftermarket alarm system, under the dash near the steering column there should be a little black box with a bunch of wires running to, take a picture and post it. The brand should be on it.

Right on virgineg6 and motegicivic.....
Alright, well I figured it out. Apparently someone installed an aftermarket alarm system on it (which I will be taking to the shooting range), so I ripped it out. The car was "functional" again, but wouldn't start still. I pulled apart the distributor and replaced the ignition coil, and all is well. Thanks for the replies. I just thought i'd let you guys know incase someone else is having a similiar problem.
