Steering wheel shake at high speed??????
Hello guys, I have a problem with my 99 civic EX. The past couple of weeks ago my civic steering wheel started to shake when you hit high speed (70 mph). From 0-65 mph the steering wheel does not shake whatsoever but when you hit 70 mph and on the steering wheel shake so much. I have rotor and balance my tires but it did not fixed the problem the shaking is still there. I don't know what is causing it to shake. Can anyone please give me some advices, I really appreciate it. Thanks

I don't know exactly what side it is coming from. I can't really tell whether is coming from the passenger side or the driver side because when you hit 70 mph the only thing you notice is that the steering wheel shake only. So I can't really tell. Do you think could it be an axle is bad????? Thanks

yes a worn though usable axle can vibrate at higehr speeds.
othing to worry about if its the axle.
the steering wheel shaking though, it probably is either an unbalanced tire or tie rods are going badd.
a rarety is the rack and pinion bushing so bad it magnifies the vibration at 70+mph

You should also get the car alighted, might be that your car is unaligned and the wheels are fighting each other to stay straight. If that makes scene to you.

Re: Steering wheel shake at high speed??????
I just picked up a 99 ex coupe that does this too, right around 70mph the wheel will start to shake for a couple seconds, smooth for a couple seconds, then shake for a couple seconds ....
I haven't done anything to it but there was a receipt in the glovebox for a new control arm and alignment recently, and it just passed NYS inspection so I'm guessing the tie rod ends and brakes are fine. My guess is out of balance or bent wheel, or an axle maybe? Are they hard to change?

I have seen warped rotors do this, a bent wheel, or the aformentioned suspension parts. Get your rotors turned, if that does not cure it try rotating your tires front to back, then test drive it again. Also, have seen a seperated tire do this as well. Try these and let us know what the problem is.

Re: Steering wheel shake at high speed??????
try removing your brake rotors and see if the problem persists, lol IM KIDDING!
my car has this issue and here is the list of what a mechanic told me is wrong, upper right front control arm, most of my bushings, and a ball joint (lower right front) most of this likely caused because i drive it like i stole it lol

Couldn't Google this before you asked such an obvious question?
It's where the tread separates from the belt/rest of tire.
You don't know a lot about cars at all do you?
