Maintenance required light on a 2001 Civic...
quick question...hope i'm explaining this right..
my g/f has a 2001 Civic EX...it's got a little over 7,000 miles on it and she just got an oil change for it...but before she got an oil change, the "maintenance required" light would come on for a while, then go off...well, now it's permanently on...
i have a 99 Civic, and i pretty much know my car inside out, but i've never worked on a 2001...with my car, i know there's a indicator that will show red after so much miles to remind you that you need a routine checkup (oil change, etc...)...to reset it is simply a matter of sticking ur key in the little slot on the instrument cluster cover...
now, with her car, i was thinking that maybe this was an indicator like this? i didn't really spend much time on the subject, as the car drives just fine, and i figured that this was the case, so before i tried resetting her ECU by disconnecting the battery, i thought i'd ask the question to u guys just to save some time...
Cliff notes: g/f's 2001 Civic's "maintenance required" light is on...bone stock...a little over 7,000 miles...how and should i reset it?

It is just like yours. Check her owners manual on how to reset it.
It's just a light to remind you to get maintanence done.

To reset the maintenance lights on 2001 Civics is as follows:
with the key in the ignition, hold down the **** on the right(it is the one for the brightness of the cluster). Then turn the key to the ON position or just start the car, WHILE holding the button. Keep holding till the lights goes off(like 10 to 12 seconds). I am sorry if I can not remember exactly which ****, the one on the right or left(it is pathetic I know). Try the right first. The maintenance light on those Civics will come every 7,500 miles.
