99 Honda Accord NIGHTMARE!
I have a 98 Honda Accord and around a month ago I had the transmission replaced. Well three transmissions later and two ECM's later and I still have transmission troubles. These problems I am experienceing are new ones at that. When shifting gears there is hesitation and jerking. The place I have it (Ace Automotive) has almost run out of ideas now. I brought it to the local Honda dealer to see if they could help me. No help there. They said basically that the computer worked fine and the transmission was wrong and charged me 79$ for nothing. The shop I have it at has sent back one transmission already and put in another just to see if it happen to be the transmission, same problem.
Do the computer and transmission have to be linked up in some way before installing?

please explain the hesitation and jerking further,
how is it hesitating? like it takes the car 2-3 seconds before it actually hard shifts?
try to be as detailed as possible on the hesitation and jerking, unless im wrong but i dont believe they have to be programmed togethere.
Also is the torque convertor being replaced 3 times as well?

The hesitation is just like it takes 2 to 3 secs to go into drive or reverse. and when stopping at red light or stop sign it takes a few secs to shift to first from sec. when going from reverse to drive it takes 2 to 3 secs to hard shift as well.
And the torque converter has been changed each time with the transmission.

good details no engine light im assuming? im assuming its already been checked for codes. do you have your haynes manual? im at work and cannot look into it, but i know the manual has diagnotics for slipping tranny and i believe hesitation. I know on the f22 Accord trannys have seloniods that were known to need to be cleaned or changed and cuased problems. try googling hesitating tranny somehting along those lines youll be surpised at the results.
So during the 2 or secs do the rpms climb alot higher and faster before the shift?

It sounds like it's suffering from low line pressure.
The momentary delayed engagement is acceptable (if it lasts no longer that 1 to 1.5 seconds). Dropping out of gear at a stop light isn't).
I would attempt a very simple proceedure, before you start pulling Transmissions (and hair) again. Instruct the trans shop to remove the shift solenoids and clean the screen filters under them.
Here's a thread to a honda parts page for your transmission
http://www.hondaautomotivepart...ENOID.
Here's an illustration:
Number 10 is the suggested filter screen(s)
I'm beginning to suspect the Transmission Control Module (TCM), but the warning lamp isn't on.... (or the car in general). It's almost statistically imposible for three transmissions to fail identically.

Re: 99 Honda Accord NIGHTMARE! (P_Adams)
The mechanic shop told me that the tcm is not communicating with the ecm. They tried installing a new ecm and that did nothing. My Accord is still there and I will mention to them what you have suggested. I was told that in Accord 98 and up the ecm includes the tcm together. Is that correct?
Forgive me but the ecm is engine control module and the tcm is the transmission control module correct? Are they separate or is one separate from the other?

thanks P_adams for clarifying that there are shift solenoids, I agree with his info, Wouldnt the shift solenoids be replaced with all 3 trannys though?

So replacing the pcm handles the tcm problem. So the only thing left would be to remove the shift solenoids and clean the screen filters.
And no there are no codes showing up, I'm guessing because the tcm is not communicating with pcm or there is some other issue.
LOL @ "before you start pulling Transmissions (and hair) again." because I'm past that and so are the mechanics. Problem is I love my Honda and can't afford to purchase another one at the moment. I've already put 2,275 dollars into this transmission. I really appreciate everyone's suggestions.

your welcome, i would look into line pressure like p_adams is saying,
how does the fluid look? is it burning up each tranny you put in? see if the shop will anaylze the fluid or has. i can only give my 2 cents man. ill keep thinking though

This is more of a 'best guess" for something which would cause these problems and yet not set a code.
After this, it's becoming fast friends with a tech with a scanner and access to Honda Technical Services.

Well it turned out to be a shift solenoid was bad. I don't know which one exactly but finally its running normal. They replaced one of them with a solenoid from the 1st tranny. Thanks for the help guys.

I had a similar problem with my daughter's 1999 Accord LX. I removed the upper pair of solenoids (A & B) and found the screens clogged. I removed the gasket and screens and cleaned them, reassembled and it seems to have fixed the problem.
