1995 Honda Accord LX Problems!
I have a 1995 Honda Accord LX. I was driving the car and all of a sudden the rpm and speedometer gauges went out and my car wouldnt shift out of first gear......then I stopped and put the car in park.....then I turned the car back on and it wouldnt come out of park........i finally pushed in the shift lock key and got it into drive but the gauges were still messed up and the car wouldnt shift out of first.....does anyone have any idea of what is causing this problem....im thinking its something to do with the electronics of the car and hoping its not a major transmission problem....if anyone can give me any input on what may be causing this, I would def appreciate it. Thanks

Check the fuses. I think it's the one for back up lights? I had this problem happen to me. If not fuses then alternator might be going.

I have no idea. I know on most cars, if it is stuck in 2nd gear, that is limp mode, which allows you to drive enough to get to a repair facility. You should probably take it Aamco. They do free transmission test. I am sure they have probably seen this before. You can go on their website and print out a coupon for a free test from them. Good luck!

I don't think the linkage or solenoid would cause the gauges to stop working also.

Bad news....Took the car to the garage and had the solenoids replaced and fuses replaced and the car is till not fixed....The mechanic said he thinks the transmission is out....Sucks because transmissions are so exspensive....thanks for all you in put everyone.

Aamco disassembled a customers trans one time. The car still qualified for the automatic transmission recall, but not after that. They disassembled EVERYTHING. Took the valve body apart, disassemble every shaft and then threw all the parts in the customers trunk and told them to tow it to "Honda" because it was still under warranty.
The customer wasn't too happy with Aamco when we told them there is no way we could warranty the trans in this condition.
If you say you could not get the car out of park and had to insert a tool into the shift lock slot, I would assume the problem you are having is electrical and not mechanical because the shift lock has nothing to do with the actual transmission. The shift lock is controlled by a solenoid right next to the shift lever. The purpose of this lock is to prevent you from taking the shifter out of park if you don't have your foot on the brake pedal.

I am having the same problem. All my gauges are out and the windows are stuck. I also cannot get the key out of the ignition. The car drives fine however in every gear. I haven't been able to take it in yet and was wondering if anyone figured out what may be causing this.
