Best oil for turbo? 10W-30 Mobil1 Tri Synthetic?
I was wondering whats the best oil to use? I heard that 10w-30 mobile 1 try synthetic is good and is thin and lubricates well. Also it makes the turbine spin faster.
What does everyone use? Thanks.

I use that too.............but I also heard synthetic is not good for turbo and is the reason some people blow seals since it gets past them cuz of the thin-ness of the oil. I dont know how accurate this is.

Has anyone use Amsoil?
Im coming up on my first oil change after going turbo (1500 miles). I think Im gonna go with Amsoil.
The oil I am running now is the Castrol blend. It seems to do a good job. I check my oil every day, and after 1300 miles its still as clear as the day i put it in.

I have used Amsoil since I installed my turbo last July. It's great stuff. The one I use is the racing multi viscosity synthetic, 20-50, which is great because of the extreme heat an oil cooled turbo charger puts out. I buy directly from Amsoil and buy 4 gallons at a time. My last order was $150 because I bought an oil analysis kit they sell too.

One question, 5 different answers. We are well on our way to figuring out the right answer.

What's the deal with Mobil 1 synthetic lately? I remember reading in the forums that as of like April 15th, they were changing the formula and it wasn't going to be "true" synthetic anymore. I looked at the Mobil1 website and it did confirm that they were changing it - "All New and Improved!!"....Well, was it truly improved or were the rumors true?

Re: Best oil for turbo? 10W-30 Mobil1 Tri Synthetic? (Slick_GS-R)
i think that synthetic is too thin as well...i remember when a professional mechanic/ friend of mine pulled a block apart, only to see saturated synthetic oil glazed to the block, he ended up having to pressurize it off, with i guess steam and pressure, and it took him approx.4-5 just to do that.
people have said it cakes ur internals, which is good if u leak all of your oil out and run around not knowing it for a lil while..........
so, in conclusion, i will never run it, only redline synthetic in my trans.

viscosity issues aside, put some synthetic in a frying pan with a candy thermometer and in another frying pan put some regular oil. Synthetic can go over 600 degrees F before it starts to smoke. You'll burn up regular oil at 300-400 degrees.

Mobil 1
There was a test Mobil 1 performed with a BMW M3 and a dyno several years back to test it's new synthetic oils.
They ran it for over a million miles on a dyno for one year, and then performed a internal engine break down to see how things turned out. They only stoped it every 5,000 miles for an oil change.
The engine looked PERFECT!!. The berrings were still in great shape, and the piston rings were perfectly fine!! IT BURNT NO OIL!!
That's why I use Mobil one.
There is a web page of the test but I don't have the link. Anyone?

I've being using castrol syntec 5w 50 and lately 10w 40 for over 80K miles on my integra RS with Drag III (9psi max). No problems thus far. My compression has remained the same 190+.

I use and recommend regular dino Mobil oil. I have had several people try to convince me on Mobil 1, Amsoil, and other brands, and I could never justify the cost. Just change your oil regularly, use a quality filter, and you should be ok IMHO

Re: Best oil for turbo? 10W-30 Mobil1 Tri Synthetic? (turbod97ex)
Mobil 1 is still a real synthetic ( Group 4 PAO & Group 5 Ester base stock ) unlike most other "synthetic" out there that uses hydrocracked dino oil ( Group 3 ). It last much longer, my car change oil every 10k miles now and the oil analysis shows that it is still usable for a little longer. My 8.2k result with SuperSyn show less than 1 ppm of metal wear per every 1k mile driven, compare to 2-3 ppm on universal average.
Castrol Syntec, Vavoline SynPower, and Penzoil synthetic are all Group 3 only. I used to use Syntec but switch to Mobil1 when they change their formula back then.

Re: Best oil for turbo? 10W-30 Mobil1 Tri Synthetic? (Bryson)
thers a article somewhere with a dude and some domestic truck (ford? chey? i forgot), he drove the car 800+ miles daily (he delivered ****) and changed his oil every 3 k miles, he did like over a million miles or something in a few years, he went through liek 2-3 trannies and other maintenence parts, but the block was stock, penzoil heard about it, and bought it and tore it down to see if they can learn from it, they said it only showed signs of about 80k of wear and tear...the dude used penzoil DINO oil....the $.98 ****! so a search, im sure u can find the article.
