Okay, so... just got back from a trip to the grocery and a couple of other stops. Had the reader on, and here's what I saw:

I idled in the driveway for a couple of minutes, after first starting....

aaahhhh. Much more sense. Thank you.
No one has ever really explained that to me, honestly. I came by the reader in a circuitous fashion, so I've been using it to diagnose codes more than deeper...

1) these clues you list, are they for a properly-operating system, or the indicator of trouble with valve clearance?...and...

well, hell... the code is back. Showed up yesterday, also got the VTM-4 light. Cleared them both but..now what? EGR valve?

Seems it may not be as much a priority.... we've driven about 105 miles today and no CEL; I cleared codes yesterday evening and nothing shows up, so maybe a simple clean and re-gap did the trick. Got...

No worries. Not offended. Didn't feel you were being mean.

5224's were not oily. One had visible carbon buildup. All were out of spec on gap....

'05 Pilot 301 code question

Picked up the Pilot yesterday. Naturally, a CEL came on as we drove off the lot. Reader says 301, so I swapped the coils between cylinders 1 and 3 to see if the issue followed it, but it did not....
