the mph registered with gear gears correctly either the axle poped out or i have seen 1 time that the joint broke internaly and is just spinning inside of itself

1st step in any a/c checking is checking the low AND the high pressures both can cause the compressor to turn off any thing lower than 28 and higher than 350 should cut power to it chech that and...

have you aligned it yet? if not the tie rods could be to far out of range and wheel hitting something, or have wrong rack installed. where is the sound coming from btw? column, rack or wheels?

if the axle had popped out it would register the speed higher than just 5 mph say in 2nd gear like 20 or so and 3rd would be 30-40 since the final drive is still moving. its more serious. possible to...
