18ga will be fine. You could even use 16ga so its alittle easier to weld.

Just placing it on aluminum is a sure way to warp it. It really needs to be clamped down. I have fixtures made on the lathe for each size so I can back purge it and clamp it tight while welding

Modified some Valve covers for a J37 into a DA Integra. To run a Breather set-up. Customer has a built motor and is shooting for 700whp on nitrous.

Stainless is fancy and looks really nice. Aluminum is considerably lighter and easier to bead roll. I have used both. I would def. do stainless if its not alot of piping and for a street car
