Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

The gauge tells you what % of pressure is leaking. The car runs great, that's why I think the high #s seem odd.

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

Why would you run the engine until it dies? On these SOHC engines the pistons aren't insane to get to. Well it looks that way anyhow. I've studied the process pretty well, as I may end up having to...

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

You're right. It's right above the oil filter. I was looking at something else that looks similar. I can't see in that area very well, but it appears clean. I also felt around and found no oil. I...

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

I have already did as you described and the coolant never moved as best as I could tell. I'm thinking it has to be though, or the engine would overheat.

Wow! $60 for the set. That is a steal....

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

I considered that, but my son drove it for 3 weeks like that and it never overheated. The temp gauge stays at normal. The gauge sensor is in the block and reads the coolant temp there. I'd like to...

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

The plug looks like the one at the start of this topic. I don't think it looks abnormal. I'm not sure if that is combusted oil on the lower threaded portion or rich fuel, or something else all...

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

That is what I said above when sde780 suggested doing a wet test. I also considered that since it seems the high compression is likely due to carbon build up, the standard spec would then be elevated...

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

D16y8. Just looked at the P30 Pistons. Looks like they're for a B series engine. Mugen cold air intake, Airmass header, Exhaust looks to be stock except muffler & tip.

Re: Radiator Hose Pressure?

I've tried running the engine with the cap off to see if any air worked it's way out. None that I've seen. The car seems to heat up, heater is great, holds a normal operating temp, all seems fine....

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

Just finished the wet compression test on the low cylinder. It held 225. Dry is 190 and wet 225. The 35lb difference, I think, tells me what I have to do...New rings! I got a good look at what oil...

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

My 96 civic has a D16y8. When you say timing, I assume you mean ignition timing. I have adjusted the I-timing recently. We had a leak from the distributor O ring. I marked the orientation on the...

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

That was my first thought, but the compression kit instructions & my Haynes manual says that compression can become above spec due to carbon build up and that it's not good. Are their any mods that...

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

Compression test shows:

Cylinder #4:210 #3:190 #2:210 #1:210

My Haynes says standard spec is 184 and says that if it reads higher the heads need cleaned of carbon build up. I'll deal with...

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

Just got in with the new kit. It has the same issue as before. I'm going to connect the plug fitting to the tester and use the hose to screw it in as tight as I can, but not so tight as to give me...

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

I'll get a helper this time. The main problem I'm having is the tester. The part that threads into the plug hold. It isn't a standard size of a plug (5/8"). I have sockets that fit it, but not that...

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

That is great to know. Haynes didn't mention method of rotation and I've never seen it done. Thanks. Now I gotta find a better tester!

Re: Radiator Hose Pressure?

Ha, yeah, I'm referring to the heater. That would be funny (in a way) if I meant the engine temp was on hi. ;) I did have the fan on hi though, per Haynes manual. This is the second T stat as well. I...

How much did the head job..(lol) cost ya? I got a compression kit today and damn was it uncooperative! I got engine up to temp, removed all the plugs, disconnected the distributor main, and screwed...

Re: Radiator Hose Pressure?

Just ran the car for 10 minutes with heat on high and the temp never moved from cold. The thermostat never opened either. It cool outside but the engine should still warm up in 10 minutes I'd think.

Radiator Hose Pressure?

I few weeks ago I did a system flush, replaced the Tstat with a failsafe, replaced the radiator cap. The heater works great. There is no air in the system as far as I can tell. The problem I'm having...

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

I did notice that while I was looking it over yesterday, if I opened the throttle the smoke got a little worse. I didn't consider looking at the rear main by removing the fly wheel cover plate....

Re: Oil loss. No Leak. No Smoke.

Thanks guys. The idle is perfect by spec. Maybe 700RPM. I do have very little smoke, but its so little that I can't tell if it's white or blue. I'm thinking rear main seal (long shot) or possibly a...
