My 1991 honda civic is shaking when sitting at lights idling. It seems to shake less when I start to accelerate and is barely noticeable when driving.

Re: 1991 Honda Civic won't start

ok, so I got it started by replacing the ignitor and ignition coil.

Its still shaking when I drive though, especially when waiting at a light, and it seem to be accelerating as efficiently either.

Re: 1991 Honda Civic won't start

can someone give me the instructions for checking for power at the ignition coil? I looked it up online and it looks like I have to actually open up the brass casing the coil is in.

Re: 1991 Honda Civic won't start

ok, gonna check for power at the coil tonight. I'll let you know how that goes. I put in a used ignition coil a couple months ago that I bought from a sketchy guy so it was probably ready to die and...

Re: 1991 Honda Civic won't start

sure, but it was running before with the low compression so i think the lack of spark is the first problem I need to worry about. What could be causing no spark?

Re: 1991 Honda Civic won't start

I just suggested to my dad the timing belt problem and he said the problem is that the car is not getting power. There is no spark and this wouldnt have anything to do with the belt...

Re: 1991 Honda Civic won't start

If its not too much trouble could you describe how to do that for me? Or perhaps point me to a webpage that can give the instructions?

Re: 7 symptoms, one problem?

Well, I did a compression test and all the cylinders were the same but "low". Oil looks fine, no bubbles in the rad. Don't think it's a head gasket problem, think it was just a matter of not bleeding...

7 symptoms, one problem?

OK, so there are several problems with my car so I figured this time I would post them all in one since they might be related. It’s a 1991 Honda Civic Hatchback, 1.5L automatic.

1- I’m getting...

Re: engine overheating? smoke from manifold area

ok, nevasatisfied, I have solved the overheating problem...not enough coolant. Didnt bleed the air out of the rad when I put in the new one. So that problem is solved.

Now it's just the little bit...

Re: engine overheating? smoke from manifold area

engine overheating? smoke from manifold area

Recently the temperature guage has been saying that my engine is overheating when Ive only driven a few blocks. Then the guage will drop to normal (about halfway). Its kind of erratic.

So when Im driving my 1991 Honda Civic every so often I push the gas but the car doesn't really accelerate. I'll press harder and suddenly the car WILL get gas and it surges ahead quickly.

Can...
