Sort of on the same page as you but Im pretty sure when downshifting you can just shift to neutral and then go into whatever gear you need. Also I dont think it really matters how fast you release...

My mechanic friend suspects the head gasket due to it slowly losing coolant and overheating. I'm hoping its actually a bad fan relay or temp switch thats causing it to overheat but that would mean it...

Thanks for the advice, although I would definitely have to do the head gasket and belts in the near future.

Needed a shallow socket for the tensioner and i got it. Its wierd the timing was just barely off like only a tooth. Probly went all the way around :scared:

My 91 sedan stock d15 jumped timing a couple months ago, now that its getting warmer I wanted to see if I could getting running again.

I know theres a good chance i bent a valve since it stopped...

Are you sure your getting fuel to the cylinders? Might wanna check the line or see if the plugs smell like gas. Im currently having a similar problem.
