Finally tested tint samples... (I wanted to see if Huper was worth it)

Sunny and 75 F at 5 pm, but it's late June so the sun is still high.

I held scraps of tint in front of my face to get a feel for how much heat rejection I'm getting...

- Huper50 is similar to...

Re: Thinking of getting tint for '08 Sedan...

Does anyone with a tinted rear see illuminated de-fogger gridlines?
(from car's headlights or sunshine at certain angles?)

I have a suspicion I will always see them through my Huper 40, due to...

I just had a talk with Huper Optik USA...

And they told me small bubbles in the rear window is normal after tinting, when you have a defogger and in-glass radio antenna.

The person I was speaking with said she had small bubbles for...

Re: Thinking of getting tint for '08 Sedan...

I'm not sure if some of the cabin heat comes from engine bay heat though.
If it dropped the vent temp 5-10 F when using maximum heat in winter, I would still be annoyed.
I like being able to heat...

I also found out something else that might help!

Running my car with the knob turned to "fresh air",

Re: Thinking of getting tint for '08 Sedan...

Today is about 80 F and partly cloudy.
Car's been outside all day in the sun with moonroof-panel closed.
Moonroof panel itself still feels maybe 10 F hotter than the apolstry (sp?) on the ceiling....

Re: Thinking of getting tint for '08 Sedan...

4 pm, 77 F and sunny

My parked car is now 105 F, so the tint isn't doing much atm...
(probably would have been 109-114 F?)
but the sun is now at a 45 degree angle and is facing my windshield....

At 2 pm, it is currently 75 F with sunny skies and 57% humidity.
I put a reflective sunshade behind the windshield this morning and roof panel closed.

Regarding darker tint vs. solar heating...

In terms of % difference in sun heating,
it was like 10-15% less heat difference from ambient temps going from 35% to 20%
(scrap film left on back...

Re: Thinking of getting tint for '08 Sedan...

Correct,
but to be more specific Huper Optik has measured the tint (I believe) on windows, so the numbers are actually a bit lower.

Huper 50 = 44-50% (somewhere around there)
Huper 40 = 34-38%...

Re: Thinking of getting tint for '08 Sedan...

I can see that the 40% on the rear is darker compared to the 50% when I'm standing directly in front of the rear looking deep into the car, (say to the...

Re: Thinking of getting tint for '08 Sedan...

Got my car back from tint shop.
Looks good and it's as light/dark as I thought it would be.
The back window does not look darker outside despite 10% less VLT.
and I now have a rear deck that...

Icon3 On closer inspection...

The windshield and all the windows on the doors say "Solargreen" from their factory window stamp.

But the rear window does not have "Solargreen" mentioned in the factory window stamp.

Maybe...

Re: Thinking of getting tint for '08 Sedan...

Fair enough, and I sort of agree...
But I still think my rear window "looks" lighter than the rear door windows
because of the angle of the back window, and it not shaded at all by the roof.

Re: Thinking of getting tint for '08 Sedan...

the sunroof I want done mostly for UV protection and it is only a small...

Re: Thinking of getting tint for '08 Sedan...

I find the specs confusing.

I initially thought doing 40 on the rear with 50 on the side was a good idea:

-because the 40 is rated for 80% Infrared Rejection, (IR)
-while the 50 is rated...

Re: Thinking of getting tint for '08 Sedan...

I live in Ontario and here nobody is hassled for 35% on the front side windows,
and you can go as dark as you want (5% a.k.a. Limo/GANGSTA?) behind the front windows.
However, I like to travel to...

Thinking of getting tint for '08 Sedan...

The main reason I want to get tint is to cut down on solar-heating.
My car gets very hot in summer, but living in Canada, it's cold and dark for a lot of the year too.
(so I don't want to go too...

Re: My center console feels warm/hot after a long drive...

You gave me an idea...

How about instead of insulating the console (interior),
insulate either the exhaust itself, or install a heat shield under the floor and above the exhaust.

I will...
