Great, now, where do I find out what letter or number and where in the vin that digit would be. The last salvage yard I was at, the operators info said I would need an ECU from a 2004 or 2005 EX...

Thanks Ryan, that s what I wanted to know. So , ANY ECU , EX or LX will physically plug in , and run the engine, once key, immobilizer are compatible, from any 01-05 with same tranny and VTEC type....

That use to be easier when our Civics only had two ECMs, for auto or manual. For this model it seems there is a different ecm for a DX, LX, EX whatever.....haven t found mine yet at our local...

The Autel MS 908 unit will do the job but it lists for between 1500 and 2500 bucks and I do not want to pay that. There is a unit that copies this one and made in China that at one time sold for...

Thanks 1999, yes, I agree, a D17 and R18 sound like very different motors. Prolly should plan on swapping in a JDM motor for the 06......

I would bet the replacement head gasket and maybe the head decreased your compression ratio a tad. . I have had the stock head milled and with the replacement gasket noticed a power decrease....

I believe the main relay on your model also feeds power to the dizzy as well as the fuel pump. Did you check that with a known working relay.

First thing first........look for the obvious or expected. Clean and reseal the cam plug and KNOW it can no longer be a problem.......and see if you are still leaking oil............

Pretty simple to check and see where the problem is. Pull the door panel and unplug two conductor lead plugged to motor. It may have just come loose. Turn power on and check for around 12 volts dc...
