I would just replace the valve cover gasket if you haven't done so 90% of the times the rubber is dried up and cracking and once you remove it its more prone to leaks otherwise it should be pretty...

Sounds to me like a bad Distributor check for spark.... Same thing happened to me on my motor. When the dizzy goes bad while your driving it all the power cuts off on the motor and the engine begins...
