Denso is superior to bosch IMO. I don't think you made a tragic mistake. The worst thing that will happen is the light will come back on.

The diagnostics for this are pretty simple. With the column covers off you can unplug the 6 pin connector from the ign switch. Then cycle the key from off to acc and back to off. If you can do that...
