How long should brakes last?

I've got a 07 LX coupe that is 11 months old and only 13,200miles
brakes are completely spent. the wear sensory is shrieking when driving and sometime also on brakes.

I can't say I've ever noticed or touched mine but do the valve covers get hot, and if so I don't think that paint will hold up well.

205/50/17 runs about perfect if you can take that stretched look with higher sidewall
215/45/17 is stock for Si
you can run 225/45/17

the differences are so small.
