Re: ***WELDING RANDOM CHAT THREAD***

Been wanting to learn to TIG for years and years. I finally bought an AHP welder a few weeks ago. This is like the 10th bead I've done so far. 308 filler rod on some junk mild steel square tube. ...

Re: picking a soldering iron

I never really liked the butane soldering irons. I'd recommend a basic Weller plug-in iron unless you absolutely need the portability of a butane iron.

Re: Dual Plenum Intake Manifolds

I see them as kind of unnecessary on 'most' drag cars.(edit: Although, they could be beneficial in classes that limit turbo size, engine combinations, etc)

You'll see these manifolds really shine...

Re: Dual Plenum Intake Manifolds

The actual calculations for coming up with the second plenum are relatively basic. The harder part is coming up with the design of the intake runners and main plenum, but this is the complicated...

Re: Worst Fabrication Pictures

Jesus, even someone with a remedial understanding of fluid motion would never do that.

The welds actually look decent from what I can see..Unless they're undercut or something.

What a shame.

Re: Where can I buy braided hoses

Maybe just a defective piece. It happens.

I know I used summit fittings on one of the fuel systems in the mustang in my avatar. They went together nice, but then siezed up and basically chewed...

Re: Where can I buy braided hoses

Lots of places carry the stuff.

I'd recommend Earl's or Aeroquip. DO NOT buy they Summit/Jeg's brand stuff to save a few bucks..

Have fun...You'll hate life when you start pricing fittings....

Re: ToxicFab's Fabrication pics!

Threads like this are the reason I love fabrication and TIG welding so much. There's some crazy work on here between you, Agtronic, 9bells, and a few others.

Re: Starting my own fab shop!

Those cars look like such a pain to work on. No wonder you find it so hard to charge a decent amount for the work you do.

Reminds me of 98-02 Camaros/Firebirds....It's easier to just drop the...

Re: Roll bar rear mount location, tips

Weld it in place and spray it. It'll involve a lot of masking, but it will look 100 times better than the other way you thought about doing it.

I know a fabricator in the automotive field...He does mainly cage/chassis/suspension, but he's done a stainless hotside and stuff for us before.

He's always swamped with work. He'll be working...

Re: what gauge for alum. pro stock wing?

Yeah, brace it properly and you can go pretty thin.

Are you using rods and spherical joints to brace it?

Re: mig help

Maybe slow the wire down a bit.

Also, we used a brass hammer on the back sides of holes. It helps a ton since the weld wont stick to the hammer. Makes it much easier to fill in holes.

Re: problems with my welds!! noob mig welding

You should hear a hiss of gas when you're on the trigger. I'd personally start by taking the line between the regulator and the welder off, and turning the bottle on...If you get gas coming out...

Stop crying, I can ask people's opinions as much as I want. Obviously he didn't see/respond to the thread I made.
