XM stations I listen to:
Fred, Ethel, Lucy, BBC World News and Sonic Theater (sometimes featuring Joe Frank...)</TD></TR></TABLE>
Ditto for me with the exception of the BBC stuff... I listen to ESPN all the time. For someone who drives over 35k miles per year XM is a god-send!

I do my own installs and custom made some brackets so the install is much nicer than the one you'd get at a best buy/circuit city/etc. I wouldn't really want one just sitting on top of my dash. I also got the reciever free after rebate so just couldn't resist.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Pics?
I'm picking up a new vehicle (truck) in the next few weeks, and i've already got the sirius receiver - just havent hooked it up yet.

Got Sirius in all my cars and trucks. It's worth every penny to not have to listen to commercials EVER!

Does Sirius lack commercials even on the talk style channels?
XM is rife with commercials on a lot of the stuff I attempted to listen to. XM Public Radio, CNN, ESPN, Bloomberg, etc.

Isn't that because those are commercial stations, not XM produced stations?

Re: XM/Sirius worth it in a tow vehicle? (tnord)
For those that I know with RV type trucks, etc-YES. Then again most of them listen to MRN's coverage of pro-motorsports (ie NASCAR). For the value of always having a signal (tunnels excluded ) that has the programming you want, it is nice. Then again in mynear million miles I have personally enjoyed searching for a radio station to listen to-helps knowing where you really are on the road, mainly at night.
The player/receiver combo is an excellent idea whose time has come and I too will be buying one for the MP3 player feature. That alone makes the unit worth it to me since you can stick a single disc in and never hear the same tune twice during a long trip.
Happy Christmas and Merry Chanukah everyone

To tell you the truth, I am not 100% sure. I never listen to anything but music or the comedy channel once in a blue moon. So, none of the ones I listen to have commercials.
I think you may be right though about the "other" stations have commercials because they are produced by those organizations...

I have the Roady2 in my MR2 and I love it. My only complaint is that you can't see channel name/number, band name, and song all at once. You can only see two of the three.
I picked XM over Sirius because I'm a big Opie & Anthony fan, and I HATE Howard Stern. I like offensive radio, just not from bitter blowhards who act like they invented the genre.

Thats the only reason I considered XM, but the overal programming of sirius was better for me (80's and techno crap stations)

Not more, just better. They actually have a couple stations that place 80's, but one is strictly devoted to 80's. They also have the hair bands on another channel!
I like channel 008 (80's music)!

Re: (prkiller)
Hows the sound quality with sirius compared to fm? CD?
I already have a Alpine head unit thats satellite radio ready, so the connection won't downgrade the quality much if any.

Re: (tequilakid)
It's pretty good. I would not say CD quality, but it's much better than FM. It also is much better when you use a deck with the hook up, than if you use a FM modulator device.
Both seem to work for me!

Oh crap - I'm in tears - hehehe
on another note - I just resigned up with XM in the denali. I missed going without it for a few months after the initial description ended. Got a deal in the mail - 3 months for 1 & no activiation
Travis - if you have steering wheel controls, you can tune your gf out when she mentions Oprah or Dr Phil (both are on back to back if you are in KC - ask me how I know )

Honestly that did not occur to me. That's a good point.
However, comedy channel is produced by XM, and is chock full of commercials. In fact I'd say it is the worst of the lot in that regard.
Think I'll cancel it altogether tomorrow.

Re: XM/Sirius worth it in a tow vehicle? (krshultz)
Well I finally activated the Sirius today and put it in the car for the drive out to my dad's house for christmas dinner (1.5 hr each way). So far, I really like it, I think its well worth the investment.
Pros:
- Lots of selection
- Easy to setup and use
- Easy to "install" in the car
- Good sound quality with the FM tuner thing
- Remote control is fantastic
- I found the music to be pretty damn good, even the 'raw dog' (uncensored) comedy station wasnt bad either
- 80's music
- No commercials!!!!
- 'Starmate' display kicks alot of ***
Cons:
- Lots of selection
- Mess of wires - when I buy a truck, i'll make a more permanent/clean install of the thing
- Very, Very distracting on the road. I want to flip channels all the time - maybe its just my ADD, but it was to the point where I turned it off a few times.
- I had to keep changing the station for the FM tuner thing to get the best sound quality
- I got some annoying whine/background noise from the player, although it could just be my car

Sirius <U>has</U> NPR.
My shop is a Dealer for both XM and Sirius so I'll offer my opinions...
Both companies are allowed the exact same bandwidth by the FCC so they have more or less the same number of channels. Sirius does get a little trickier with thier bandwidth by giving more of it to the music channels and less to talk channels to give the music channels slightly better sound quality.
Sound quality in general is comparible to a decent MP3 recording If you're not using an FM Modulator. Definately stay away from the wireless FM Mods if you want any kind of sound quality. Hard-wired FM Mods are ok (most tuners have this option with addl hardware) but if possible direct is better.
As stated above, only music channels are comercial free with both companies, and both companies do add some of thier own comercials into the talk programs.
It's true that right now XM has way more subscribers that Sirius mainly because it launched first, but Sirius is catching up quick. Neither will be going away anytime soon.
XM is currently being marketed twards the more mature adult crowd while Sirius is leaning to the younger crowd, the result of this is that XM can be a little more on the conservative side while Sirius is just a bit more liberal. There are exceptions.
I love my satelite radio, I've had it since sat radio was first introduced a couple of years ago and I haven't bought a CD since. I don't bother with any music downloads or MP3 players either, there's just no need because there's always something good on the sat.
I personally have XM because they have much better Christian programing than Sirius does. I usually listen to #31 The Torch, #170 Family Talk, #73 Frank's Place, and #53 (?) Lucy

Re: XM/Sirius worth it in a tow vehicle? (Louie B.)
xm came standard with my TSX. I don't have problems with reception unless I am in a parking deck or in my garage (well of course). I listen to xm comedy, deep tracks, and a few other stations. It beats the hell out of "regular radio" by a mile. I am a fan of it.

i had to drive 240 miles today in my mom's car, it reminded me of how awful that FM radio is.
And like RJ, one of the downsides I've found with satellite is my ADD.
