Local businesses don't keep all those helmets in stock as a try-on service so that you can buy your helmets elsewhere. Support your local speed shop, and buy it there - even if it costs a few bucks more. (And you might find out that it doesn't cost more locally at all; that's what I found when I recently bought my SA2005 helmet.) It will help keep them in business, which will mean that you'll have that local place to go when you need something in a hurry or you need knowledgeable product advice.

My sentiments exactly.
Speedware is the US Importet and Distributor of Arai Helmets. If you haven't tried one on, your missing out. The have a great fit and a unique balance that makes the helmet seem lighter than it true weight. After 20 years of racing, I am on helmet number 8 and I'll most likely never buy a Bell or Simpson again.

And if you don't try on a Bell, you may be missing out as well. (Speedware carries both Arai and Bell.) I had heard people claim that Arai helmets fit better than other brands, so when I was shopping this time around, I made sure to try on Arai as well as Bell and a couple of other brands (Impact and G-Force) to see which helmet fit me the best (snug but not painful). The Arai helmets, even the ones which were supposed to be the right size, were terribly painful, with spots of high compression, and one of them I couldn't even put onto my head. I found the Bell helmets were just fine, so that's what I bought. (Yes, I was willing to pay the $500-800 for an Arai helmet if it fit better, but it didn't, so I saved money, too.) Which is why you really need to try the helmets on, to see which brand fits you better. And it's not necessarily going to be the one you might expect based on what you hear from other people.

Well, he said, "besides speedwear", so I offered my opinion.
Bunch of haters. What ever happened to capitalism? Besides, once he's IN speedwear he might find that it's a great place to purchase OTHER products or have services dones. God knows I've spent several of my hard earned bucks at speedwear while also buying stuff online that I got to "try" there. Having stuff there that you get to "try" such as seats and helmets is a way of advertising your shop.
But no, that's cool, be haters.
