Hey guys,

I'm just wondering what kinda mods others are running as far as steering goes...everything from steering wheels, to manual rack swaps to Quaife rack & pinion kits.

I drive a '93 DX hatch. It came with power steering. Running with everything (steering related) in stock form right now.

I'm just trying to figure out what mods will give the the best steering ratio.

I'm working on fitting a Koyo EPS system (in combination with a quickener) for the new rally car, although it is not going all that well, not sure if it will be possible.

A few people do a manual rack swap. Manual racks are slower.

Some people take the stock system and cut/loop the lines to the p/s rack, and remove the pump. I have had this on both my race cars (and my ITR when it was a street car). You keep the quicker ratio of the power steering rack, and it's not a ton of work to do.

Yeah, your rack, de-powered, with a smaller than stock steering wheel would most likely be ideal. If you want the straight-up smallest ratio, the '00-01 Integra rack is the one to have, which swaps right in.

I've been reading about looping the lines with the breather, and that's something I intend to do. I was hoping that there was something I could do to improve the ratio.

Can anyone confirm that the '00-'01 Integra racks are indeed the best ratio?

i can confim that it is INCORRECT. all dc2 racks, 94-01, have the same 16:1, 2.98 turns ltl.

Yep, ALL integra's have this rack. I swapped my manual civic rack for this rack, and looped it. Its really nice. Also, iirc its shorter then the quaife rack.

I used a clutch master reservoir for my breather:

-1 3/8 Barb T ($2-3)
-1 3/8 to 1/4 barb adapter ($2-3)
-2 feet 3/8 hose (That should leave you with extra) ($2-3)
-2 feet 1/4 hose (That should leave you with extra) ($2-3)
-8 little hose clamps (free for me)
-fitting on rack, I think its 14x1.25 to 3/8 barb, but please verify, I forgot! ($12)
-Factory clutch master resevoir, cap, and bracket. I recomend the floater as well ($30)

I currently have Quaife manual rack and 330mm suede wheel on my 92 hatch. It is perfect at the track. Just a little more work on the street.

If I were to build a AutoX setup I would go with a crazy steering quickener ratio and power steering.

I will give you my two cents tomorrow at the TLMC event.

good thread...ive been thinking about this. Does anyones car feel kinda "loose" when they turn? mine doesn and it drives me nuts

Alright, now it's been a REALLY long time since I read it, but I thought there was a minor difference in the '00-01 racks, and that they were the same as the ITR racks. I can't confirm that at all, and I may very well be wrong, but that's how I remember it from like 3 years ago.

this stems from a mistake in the itr literature for 00/01. it states they have a 15.7:1 ratio, which is incorrect. they are the same exact ratio/ turns ltl as a 94 rs, or a 97 gsr.

I run a manual rack in my race car. I dont recommend it. Its okay on a circuit. but for hillclimbs and bent sprints and general tarmac rally work it is just too much work. I am going back to installing my powersteering rack

next time my car ('92 VX hatch) leaves the garage it will have all this steering stuff installed, it's all bought and waiting to be installed:

-Depowered DC2 integra steering rack
-Nardi Suede 350mm wheel
-HKB steering hub
-Competition engineering tie rod kit

steering rules. it's my favorite thing to do in a car... well, next to shifting...

IIRC I swapped the whole subframe from a 2000 GSR to my 92 CX because the mounting points didn't match up for the rack.

Slightly different. Not that hard to make work. I had to reshape the C bracket, and lengthen the bolt holes on it. The actual bolt in mounts are the same.

Track rat

I 'de-powered and breathered' my ITR power rack and that is the best 'free' mod I ever made. The feedback and response is great on track, not to heavy at all. It ads up to a 10 - 11 pound weight savings too.

Around town it was kind of a bitch in parking lots, but at any speed over 5mph it was no problem at all.

I tend to agree for a road race car, or dual purpose HPDE/track car if you're serious about cheap performance, bang-for-the-buck mods.

I've never autocrossed with a manual rack though, just road race. Seems like someone serious about an autocross car would want an electric PS pump.
