What SCCA AutoX class do I belong in?
I am trying to figure out what SCCA Solo class my 91 CRX SI belongs in, as I am new to the sport. I believe I may only be able to run in STU due to the large number of Honda's in my region (Rocky Mountain) in that class already that I would guess are similar to mine, but I was wondering if someone knowledgeable about the rules could chime in here to suggest other classes given what I have to work with.
My car has a stock b18a swap, using the hydro LS transmission and a obd1 PR4 that is chipped but has the jumper removed to run the stock program.
I also have only a test pipe because my municipality has no emissions requirement what so ever, going into a Dynomax Superturbo muffler that I believe should be well below 93db. I have a cat I could put on, but I think the flanging may not match up quite right, so i may have to have the flanges on the exhaust system changed to run the cat.
I am currently running 205-50-15 86H rated Kumho Exsta's on fat 5's but I have some 195-60-14 86H Bridgstone Potenzas RE930AS Pole Position on 90 prelude alloys I can swap on if the larger tires cause more problems for classification. I also have an AEM cold air intake.
I, uh, already ripped out all my sound deadening "tar" as well.. that may complicate things. I have the rear cargo cover somewhere too, but it is not installed right now. Otherwise the whole stock interior minus the cargo cover and "trunk separator" are installed.
I doubt that I will be competitive in any class that allows an engine swap, but I was wondering if I should bother putting the cat on, or swapping the tires to a smaller size in order to more cleanly fit into a class, or if it even matters since I am brand new to this.
Thanks in advance!
edit: If anyone else is dealing with the same issue, post your car details here too and maybe we can keep the board cleaner with just this thread..

Sounds like your in XP. Since you ripped the tar this puts you into a higher class. If you did keep you could have stayed in SM with your engine swap. If you had the stock engine back in the car you would have been in ST class.
Hope this helps.

sounds more like EP, or DP. or he could try a mod class.
and are you sure 90 prelude had a 4x100 bolt pattern? thought all preludes had 4x114?

Yeah i think its a dumb rule too. It's not like SEB is going to change it, they are too busy with ST classing i think.

Re: What SCCA AutoX class do I belong in?
Thank you all for suggesting classes. it sounds like maybe XP is the place i have to go, but if i put the interior back in, i may be able to have a go in SMF, but the tar is a sticking point. The thing i don't get about that rule is the 88 hf had no tar to begin with.. so..
As for the "prelude" wheels, i got them in a junkyard from some model prelude i thought. i could be wrong, but they are 4x100 for sure, and aluminum. Ill have to see if i can dig up a picture.. they were a great find at the time because they cost me $60 for the whole set of 4!

It doesn't matter what car had what. Rules are the rules and unfortunately this is why when building a car you gotta look at them first.
But since this is your 1st year just have fun and learn the ropes. Most people are not competitive the 1st year or two anyway. Just get LOTS of seat time.

smf... the inspectors wont see your tar ripped out. way more fun class anyways. nothing but hondas in it. see you at pikes peak

Re: What SCCA AutoX class do I belong in?
Run in SMF with the rest of the swapped street hondas. Technically the Tar removal makes you illegal for this class but nobody will care at a local event.

Re: What SCCA AutoX class do I belong in?
Thanks for the post Supa Troopa.. I wish it were that easily cut and dried in the rulebook. After making this post i went and read the whole class section of the rule book. It is long and not nearly as concise as what you posted.
The rulebook for 2011 is found at http://www.scca.com/documents/2011%2...lo%20Rules.pdf <-- 4mb PDF

Re: What SCCA AutoX class do I belong in?
SMF inherits update/backdate, so as long as the CRX HF had none of the sound deadening tar mat, the car sounds legal for SMF to me. Put an a6 or b5 motor in it and you can run CSP (full interior save for update/backdate bits) or EP (gutted, built motor). Put the DPMFI motor in it and you can run GP. Or go completely bonkers and run it in EM with any motor you like. Scca.com has the rulebook in PDF format on the Solo page. The simple motto of "if it doesn't say you can, you can't" should keep things pretty clear.

ah sweet.. The CRX HF had sound deadening tar only on the firewall, which my SI still has, so I think I am good.

The funny bit is that I was racing people running a turbo b16 EG on 275/35 hoosiers in SMF... So they have no reason to be scared of me, as I have a looongg way too go.

He could re-skin the roof and delete the sunroof too, which is legal under update/backdate for that car. Basically, if what he has ends up matching an HF CRX, it doesn't matter that he started with an Si chassis.

Re: What SCCA AutoX class do I belong in?
Interior is there, just the tar mat has been removed from the back of the car. The divider and cargo cover aren't required since they are removable and the car could be expected to be driven that way in normal conditions.
