What do you see as an IT sleeper, or just something you'd like to see built?

Re: What do you see as an IT sleeper, or just something you'd like to see built? (krshultz)
Blake used to run an EP 914. It was nice, but underdogged for National EP.
Nevertheless, I think he won a regional championship in it.
A 914 ITC car would be cake for him, assuming he could accumulate the parts.
I've autocrossed a 914 (I think it was a DSP car, but I don't remember now) and I have to say I was impressed. Great balance and grip.
I'm just not sure I'd tackle building one for the rigors of W2W racing. But The Stig does stuff like this without a 2nd thought.

Re: What do you see as an IT sleeper, or just something you'd like to see built? (Catch 22)
Somehow, a really, REALLY nice ITC 914 - you know, with the rotisserie paint and the custom gauge panels and all the usual OP/Trevor kit - sounds really cool. Honestly if there weren't an Integra and a pile of Integra bits in my garage, I'd be underway. I would of course pay people like Blake and Trever to do the things that I hate.
Think about it. You could take it to PCA DEs. PCA concourses (which I've been to, and surprisingly, they're kinda fun). Vintage events. And then I'm pretty sure you could go and wax a whole bunch of old ITC cars at a Regional race.
--Karl, now wondering, just where does a '73 MGB get classed...ITB? G Prod?

I don't know that I like that particular implementation, but that's the body style I really dig. Always have. And to run one of those things in ITA? It's got practically twice the displacement of its competitors, great aero...all the usual things we've discussed. If you could keep one going...really...I think you've got something. Assuming, of course, you can get go-fast kit for it at anything under a small fortune.
Of course this rings familiar in light of OPM's experience running an Achieva with the HO Quad 4 - a car which I personally watched smoke all comers a few years ago. Wicked fast...until it fell apart...again. I suspect a similar fate for my Fiero.
The 914, on the other hand...

Doesn't it have the same craptastic lever-arm shocks as the Spridget? Good luck with those in IT. At least in Prod you can do a tube shock conversion. That said, I am awfult temted to build our GRM Midget for ITC instead of doing an engine swap (the only engine that fits is a rotary and I've had my fun with those).

A 1.7 I think. Maybe a 1.6.
Karl, Maybe you should discuss with Blake. He's determined to build one of these things, so he might be interested in a joint venture.
I think he want to build it more than he actually cares about owning it. Just to be original and prove it can be done. See his Beetle comments above.
Oddly, I can see Karl really enjoying the ownership of a pimptastic ITC 914. It fits a certain Karl quirkeyness.
I don't think he'd be chasing down Gareth Rebstock's CRX, but I also don't think he'd care.

You must have won the lotto...
Here's Huffaker's price list from 2003 (Spridget, but I'd guess MGBs would be similar)...

How long do you think that $13,000 engine lasts? My money is on 8 hours.

AFAIK there is a 1.7 for ITC (good) and a 2.0 for ITB (less good). I'm down with the 1.7 in ITC. An impossibly nice one. Now, finding a useful candidate would prove difficult...most (all?) of them are rustbuckets.

Am I becoming that guy who just wants to own a car for the sake of owning one that's both unusual and can win? Good God man, I never thought I'd become "that guy."

I honestly think in the hands of the right driver - Blake on any day, possibly me on a rare good day - it could scare Gareth's CRX a lot. And look really cool doing it. As long as the RE doesn't crash into it.

I was in Green Bay once.
In late November.
People had electrical cords hanging out from under the hoods of their cars.
I left and never went back.

We have several Fieros running MC- one V6 and another 4 cyl. Both are pretty quick and seem to be able to fit some really wide tires on them. Not sure the legality of the 4 cyl- there lots of rumors of illegal parts on it.
The cage did not seem to be an issue- you are allowed to run the rear bars through the back window.

Seems the old fart has to ess-plain the dog reference.

I don't know exactly why (they are GM carp, after all), but I always liked the Fiero. How about the 4-cylinder in ITB? Looks like there was just one for sale pretty cheap on eBay; didn't sell either: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

I even bought a very hard to find short final drive for a 914. Thats how bad I am. I buy parts for a car that I do not have.

On the real tight tracks, the 1.6L Miata or a CRX should be able to give it a hard time, but on most tracks I wouldn't be betting against a fully prepped 1.8L driven by a good driver. The heavier fwd cars with good motors might challenge it for pole position, but imo during a race, the contest becomes easier for the Miata the longer the race lasts. I saw about 3 or 4 black SMs at the ARRC this year with big bright Wheels America decals on them. That’s perfectly fine, just as long as the letters ITA don’t find their way on one of those black SMs. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it. </TD></TR></TABLE>
Yeah, there's a serious 1.8L miata being built to run in the NER region. I'm NOT looking forward to duking it out with him. He's hoping for 140hp at the wheels. We'll see. And he's not sparing any pennies to build it either. Though, with our newfound power out of the 240's this year, we're hoping to give the integras (that's pretty much the dominant car up here) a run for there money.
Greg A, let's go for a Nissan top 3 this year in at least 1 race! C'mon, it can happen. In one of the doubles last year Brandon and Jeremy finished 1-2 in the 240's. Jeremy's selling his car but it's going to stay in region. So there could be as many as 4 240SX's in ITA up here! How's that for some competition! Greg, let's talk soon, we should plan some strategy and share some data. We've been to the dyno quite a bit so far and are planning a lot more.

my first car i ever had was a 1984 fiero w/ the 2.5 and a 4 speed
car had a 4:10 rear end....it would do 68 in 3rd and 105 in 4th at the 5000 rpm readline......lots of grip but..the *** end was tough to control under lift throttle because the steering ration (no power steering) was so slow
i never got to drive a 4 cylnider fiero with a 5 speed but...
when i meant my wife, she had a 1987? fiero with the 2.8 5-speed.....i don't remember the year, but it was the year with the last body style, but before the downrated the v6 to 135 hp.......world of differnece from my crappy 2m4... car handled better and had decent low end and mid range power......I always wanted to see one as a race car....i wonder how light you could get it......
hers looked just like this except black wheels
http://www.fiero.org/
of course my next car after my fiero was an 89 240sx notchback, zero options with 5 speed.....another perfect ITA car that i wish i had never sold

Re: (bluegsr)
Where would the '99-'00 Protege 1.8L be classed? I know per a recent thread that the '90-'94 LX is a backmarker in ITA, but the '99-'00 might be just heavy enough from the factory to nudge into ITB. Proteges seemed to do alright in Speed Touring Car against way more capable platforms.
