tracking my 91 Civic Si.. seatbelt question
Hey everyone, i'd like to track my 91 Civic Si. already have a miata prepped for track, with seats, harnesses, etc.. but would like to track my civic, too, although not as heavily. only thing i'm worried about is that the seat belts are in the doors. i feel "safe" but the belts really don't hold you into the seat. i don't want to do harnesses, but would feel better with a CG lock at least. i don't feel like tracking the car that often, maybe once a year, so i don't want to invest in a roll bar, seats, etc. would just like to have more fun than an autox. any suggestions? should i really worry about it? thanks.

I don't think the CG Lock would work with that type of belt.
The only thing to do would be to purchase a 5 point harness or better, which would make a HUGE difference in tracking your Civic. Especially over the stock seat belts. For $150-200 you don't have to hold onto your steering wheel with the stock belts and you would be able to concentrate more on having fun.

cg lock will not work with those belts because the belt is 2 peices. not one continuous belt that slides through the buckle. a harness w/i roll protection is no good. your only option is to get a seat that does the job. otherwise, run it the way it is. i've done it and its not the worst thing in the world.

Don't bolt the vertical straps of a harness to the floor, it will compress your spine in a crash. Fixed back seats without a roll bar will kill you in a roll, as they don't break like stock seats do. To do it right, its either seat\roll bar\harness or keep everything stock.

i think youd be as fine as you could be with stock without "doing it right" with the rollbar/harness/seat combo.
although i think the whole "crush your spine" freneticism is unfounded, i dont think a harness could be properly mounted without a rollbar. it would be nice to help keep you in, i just fear that when you actually do need it for safety, it will more likely fail if its not installed with a seat and rollbar. but fine for autocross, since collisions are practically nonexistent.
what exactly would a lap belt from a harness accomplish?
there are no mounting holes in the B pillar for door mounted EF's.

yeah, i knew the CG lock wouldn't work. had one in the miata before hanresses. worked great for what it was! if i were serious about tracking the EF, i'd be putting at least an autopower and some memory fabs in along with some G force 6 points. but that's what the miata is for. i guess if i do take it to the track, i'll just leave the seats stock. i love the oem Recaros for every day driving.. they just feel right after a long day in the warehouse..
just think it would be fun to take the EF for a track day every now and then.
thanks for all the suggestions guys!

Re: tracking my 91 Civic Si.. seatbelt question
you can track it with the stock seats
just use your left foot on the dead pedal and push like crazy as you turn in for the corner...and hold until the exit.
will keep you pretty firmly planted in a pinch

i used to rock the stock belt in my red STD with vinyl seats!
just go out there and drive. forget about the rest of this nonsense.

Re: tracking my 91 Civic Si.. seatbelt question
For a long time both autocrossing and track days, I used a g-force racing gear torso-belt around my waist and the bottom-rear of the seat under my regular crx seatbelt. Though it would simply break away in an impact, the belt holds you in the seat fairly well while driving, and costs less than $20.
Now I have a rollbar and seats, but havent gotten around to installing the harnesses yet.
