Default The tale of Two All-Out Hondas

Well we have been working on this car for over 3 years now and its finally getting close to hitting the tracks, so we thought a build thread for our current Honda time killers was in order.

First off, the mods to this car are so vast that it will take some time to compile the list. Travis my best buddy has poured blood, sweat, tears and cold hard cash into this car, and it shows! So for now it will be very pic intensive, I will release the weight and power numbers in the coming weeks when we get the car on the dyno.

The car was ran with the stock D-series for a season while sorting out the suspension and chassis. Some of the key features of the suspension are custom drop spindles which lower the car 1" without compromising stroke. It also has the standard koni/GC setup and a quaife quicksteer manual rack.

Once the engine finally let go we started in on the chassis, engine bay and fender wells were completely stripped and we started to stitch weld, rivet, and cage the hell out of it!

We also cut out most of the factory roof and installed the carbon one with 3M panel bond. This was a huge amount of work, but being the car had a sunroof before we shaved nearly 50lbs off the top.

Alright we will skip ahead some to the aero build. The front splitter is Birch with a custom aluminum frame. And the rear diffuser is made out of Dibond, basically ABS sandwiched between two sheets of very thin aluminum. This stuff is great to work with and pretty durable. Goes up past the gas tank and bolts flat with the floor. Anyway pics are worth more than words most of the time.

We got the engine assembled and starting mocking everything up in the engine bay.

And finally some random detail and interior pics!

I will be happy to answer any questions, and we are compiling the Mod list for you guys too! Hoping to take down to cali in December for HFF, we will see if its completed in time.

I will begin updates on our second car this week as well, but for now just a teaser pic.

See you guys out there!

So assuming this is a Time Attack car, which I know nothing about, what cars will it run against?

Can't wait to see the crx. I say that because I may have to steal some ideas off of it if it's as wild as the civic. One question though...why s2000 LMA's?

Well the headers were the last peice of the puzzle of the for civic so we got it started last night! Its been two years since the car moved and inch under its own power so it felt good. Just waiting on a couple brake parts then it should be up on the dyno.

I tore the engine out of the crx to do a freshening up before next season. Im currently installing a Sychrotech carbon synchro set and all new bearings and seals in my type-r trans. I should have lots more pics of this car as the assembly process begins again. For now ill just leave a teaser.

This was pre-remodel, Im finally going ITB's during this small winter build so I expect midrange to improve. I have horrible resonance issues toward redline.

Ill try and get pics and video up soon!

To answer a previous question, thats a typo actually they are just the updated b-series ones. But are of the same style as the s2000 being that they are springs not hydraulic. Much more reliable and make the valvetrain much quieter.

We got the splitter off and chamfered all the edges with a router. Then sealed and painted it, looks much more finished. For aero testing we will just be wrapping the lip and fenders so we can get some hours in.

Just waiting on a Wilwood Tandem master cylinder and some time to make brake lines, then this thing will be driving and on the dyno!

what testing did you do to get to that aero package?

Why cross-drilled rotors?

We have had too many cracking problems over the years even with high-quality rotors. Have not noticed any downsides to running just slotted or even blanks for most uses.

The current aero setup is just a baseline built off of experience with other packages. We will finish the development on track using suspension travel and pressure monitors. Air flow visualization will also be used on the diffuser and rear wing.

We are currently trying to find a suitable wing profile for the car, then we will be building a foam-core wing and working out a good height and mounting system.

Have you tried two piece rotors?

Small update guys. Got the Wilwood tandem master cylinder in today. We finished up the mounting plate for the firewall and made a custom rod for the brake pedal. Just waiting on the Bias valve to show up and we will have this thing driving and on the dyno!

We also installed some charging/jump posts on the firewall because the batter is buried under the kick plate on the passenger foot well.

Should have more updates by the weekend!

Also small update on little things getting done on the CRX before the engine and transmission go back in. Finally got a seat mounted in the car, and also relocated the batter and added a box for a tender or jump box.

Trans for the car will be going back together next week, should have the engine back in the car shortly after that.

The EG should go on the dyno today for some break-in and tuning! Will update after!

Any more pics of that rear trailing arm? Looks pretty sweet. How much weight did it save?

Yeah I will take some more next time its in the air, Ill also get some more of the front spindles. They work great!

Took the car for a drive to a meet today to break it in, everything appears to be working great. Need much stiffer springs with added aero lol.

Should have some more pics and vids up this weekend.

Here are some info on the knuckles. They say they currently don't have any Honda stuff, but when we called before they had the plans and were able to produce a set for us.

http://arrautmotorsports.com/honda-products/

Retail is around 1100 dollars, but the difference in geometry correction was amazing. No bump steer and steering is light and responsive with the roll centers corrected.f

Oh thooooose... In all the years that they have been around, I've never heard a single bit of functional feedback on them! How is the brake clearance?
