Default SCCA legal race car

i am looking at taking my scca licensing stuff and was looking through their website. It states that you must rent or have a legal racecar but i can't find any info on what that is exactly. I read through the classes and understand those kinda! can someone point me in the right direction?

Am I correct in thinking you haven't been on track before? Are you trying to race on a track, or autox? Just FYI, for autoxing you don't need to be SCCA licensed.

Your best bet is to attend the next SCCA race in your area and ask questions. Honda-Tech seems to be biased towards NASA, and much of the SCCA info on here is wrong. Good Luck.

that is correct i dont have any on track experience. i am not trying to race autox, you dont have to be licensed for that. that seems to be my best bet is to attend a scca raceat beaver run or something to get some info that i need.

Visit SCCA site there are forums there too. There is always a local group someplace and someone to answer your questions.
Determine what class or series you want to run in.
Read their CCR's, and that will give you more of an idea of what questions you need to ask, and what you will need to do to get licensed.
If you have no experience like you said in your post you are kind of leaning too far out in the deep end.
Start simple do some HPDE's see if you like it first.

If you're just trying to get a license, renting a car will be your best and quickest bet.

Having said that, you should really (IMO) try to get at least a little experience before jumping into competition like that. It's good to know the basic protocol of a track weekend, in addition to a lot of the basic car control skills learned in an HPDE-type environment.

There's a lot of info here: https://honda-tech.com/forums/road-racing-autocross-time-attack-19/faq-road-racing-autocross-forum-2574277/ including a link to the SCCA licensing procedure.

thanks for the info i have read the scca website top to bottom but it says nothing on what a "legal" race car is. i have debated on just renting a car and that may be the best route to take but im just not sure yet. i will be doing some flat out days prior to starting the licensing procedure. Just wish i hadnt sold my h22a civic si a few years back that would have made a decent track car.

hi.

a 'legal' race car for a comp school (be it SCCA or NASA) will have the following: a full roll cage, a window net system, a kill switch, a fire extinguisher/system, a race seat system, a current 5 or 6 point belt system, numbers and class designations on the exterior, and it will be 'log booked' (will have been inspected by the scrutineers and OK'd). depending on which track you attend, it may also have to meet sound regulations.

if you don't have such a vehicle handy, it may make sense to rent one (arrive and drive kind of thing). around these parts, DriveGear rents BMW E30 325 cars (SCCA ITS) or NASA Spec E30; i think ballpark per day is well under $1k (and this is arrive and drive; all your consumeables, fuel, tires, brake pads, etc are covered. plus, they bring a spare car in case you have a 'problem' with the first one.....).

good luck!

PS i also agree that you should try to do a few Drivers Ed events before you go for your licence; you can do a DE in just about any kind of totally stock street car, and learn the track jargon, and flagging procedure, and some good car handling skills....

An "SCCA legal race car" must meet the following rules: http://cms.scca.com/documents/Club%2...CR/2009GCR.pdf (this can be found through the SCCA website in the club racing section).

There is a general automobile regulations section that all cars must follow and a class specific (IT, Prod, GT, etc.) section which only cars eligible for those classes must follow.
