Default Removing cone marks and bugs

Okay, so my car hasn't seen a coat of wax in about a year (bad me) and right now it has a BUNCH of cone marks (bad me) and some stupid bug on the front that I can't get off. I've decided to wax it this week but I don't want to put a coat of wax over that stuff. I realize that the wax may actually remove them, but I'm looking for something more definite. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

I have yet to try either of these, but they keep coming up as suggestions.

Bug and Tar remover
WD-40

I can't vouch for their effectiveness, but... that's what I've been told works. I'll probably be doing the same thing soon when I actually get motivated enough to desticker and wax my car.

Use a cleaner wax like Meguires that has a minor abrasive, or if its really serious try rubbing compound. Alternatatively you can try a clay bar but that means a totally different type of wax/polish.

Yup, the bug and tar remover will work...comes in a little tin can. A little elbow grease is all it takes on the toughest of bugs. I would work on the cone scuffs with some cleaner wax, although I think the bug 'n' tar remover would more than likely work on them, as well. Next time I see your car, I'll be sure to have my white gloves handy, and then you can check my bug collector (black Honda) out.
Good luck...

Blue Coral Convertible top cleaner works on light cone marks and is very gentle. For tougher cone marks I use Blue Coral Metal Polish - use it sparingly and immediately wash the area and apply wax as the cleaner strips everything. Also the metal polish does take off a little paint so if you use it all the time you may remove enough paint to make a diff. But if the cone marks are where mine are then no one will see the imperfections. I have been using these methods for 2 years on serious cone marks on my yellow type r. I have yet to see any damage.

Regards,
Alan

although I'm sure it works, I'm not sure I'd use that metal polish on anything with a clear coat, let alone anything painted glossy black with a clear coat. I'm big on the idea of using the proper tool for the job. That polish would probably do a wonderful job of shining up that fart can of an exhaust I have, though!

Best thing to do is use a little 3M Imperial Hand Glaze. Yeah.. I know, the name, the name. It's also a killer thing to use to clean up any little marks or grubby crap on your car. Second only to paint clay (which can ruin your paint if you don't use it right).

If you can't find the 3M, get Meguiar's Showcar Glaze. Both of these will work a ton better than cleaner waxes. But if you use these, you need to wax afterwards. I like to use Zaino, because it lasts a really long time, and looks great.

i like using polishing compound from turtle wax, it is a very light rubbing compound, and takes out cone and tire marks very easy, just make sure oyu wax after using.

Ouch! If you like the way your paint looks, don't use rubbing compound. Way too harsh. Trust me, a glaze/polish will take it right off without damaging the paint.

I would never use rubbing compound on my paint, not even on my wrinkled ITR.
