REDLINE TIME ATTACK @ BUTTONWILLOW APRIL 28 & 29
Hey everyone,
Registration is now open for the 2nd round of the 2007 Redline Time Attack series, being held at Buttonwillow Raceway Park just outside of Bakersfield, CA.
http://redlinetimeattack.com/index-6.html
This will be our last event in California before we start our "East Coast Swing". We will not be back in California until our Time Attack World Finals at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on November 9th-11th.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: REDLINE TIME ATTACK @ BUTTONWILLOW APRIL 28 & 29 (SuperKool)
Just wanted to get this closer to the top. Registration is picking up and we expect this event to reach the capacity of 80 vehicles. The FWD divisions are still pretty much wide open right now and ripe for the picking.
New for this year, Honda Challenge H2, H3 and H4 cars are eligible for the Modified Class. H1 cars still must compete in the Unlimited Class. This provides a great opportunity for you Honda Challenge drivers to come out to one of these events and, at the least, get some relatively inexpensive seat and test time in. And hell, if you podium in your class, added exposure for you and your sponsors. The amount of coverage our events receive is unmatched right now.
This will be our last event in California before we head east:
Montreal June 2nd-3rd
St Louis July 28th-29th
Atlanta August 25th-26th
Summit Point September 29th-30th
Then we conclude our season at Laguna Seca the weekend of November 9th-11th.

Nikolas,
why does H1 class must compete in the Unlimited class? What if other rules are met? Like having glass window and center console?
What other rule prevent H1 car to compete in modified?

Hmmmm
Looking at the current track records...
Buttonwillow Configuration #13, Clockwise
H1: 2:00.233
H4 2:03.346
Modified FWD: 2:02.728
Unlimited FWD 1:57.425
Considering that we expect the Modified FWD Class drivers/teams to step it up a notch this year, maybe it isnt so far fetched to allow H1 cars to compete in Modified Class.

I need this ruling to be clarified as I'm planning to attend and bring my car to compete in Modified class.
If I'm forced to run in Unlimited, that will put me at big disadvantage when I have to compete with other H1 cars that added SC/ Forced induction for this event.
Why the word must? What prevent H1 cars to compete in modified class if it satisfies current modified class rule?

Re: (Andrie Hartanto)
Correct.. If the vehicle meets all of the rules of Modified Class, then yes, it can compete.
We were looking for a way to accommodate Honda Challenge cars into the Modified Class for 2007. In 2006, with the way the rules were written, a Honda Challenge car could not compete in Modified, but was forced to compete in Unlimited. Even if it was an H4 car. So we changed that for 2007 by altering the rules slightly.
Proper tires must still be used as well: tires with a tread wear rating of 50 or higher.

After speaking with Chris and Dan, we have decided that Modified class is open to all Honda Challenge prepped/classed/built cars for the 2007 season. This decision is effective immediately.

Re: (Nikolas)
H4 cars have to compete with H1 cars now??
I would think you would accomodate H4 cars since they outnumber H1 cars.
H4 cars last weekend at BW: 15-17
H1 cars.....: 2
just thinking out loud

To date, we haven't had any Honda Challenge cars compete in the Modified Class. We felt that neither H1 nor H4 cars had much of a fighting chance competing in Unlimited Class, so we opted to open Modified class to all of them. Based on our old rules, even H4 cars had to run in Unlimited.... talk about unfair. :-)
Now H4 cars have a place to compete, and a legitimate shot at finishing on the podium. As far as I know, we currently have no Honda Challenge cars signed up for this next event. Knowing that H4 is more popular than H1, I would imagine that if we do see any Honda Challenge cars show up, they will be H4 cars.
And then you have the other competition.... H1 cars may be the least of your worries, as our current Modified FWD Class track record holder was right on pace with the current H4 track record for Buttonwillow. I'm sure they will be bringing more to the table.
So, more than anything, we wanted to give H4 cars more of a fighting chance. Maybe you can make some mods to the car for these events that will make the car faster, and then revert back to Honda Challenge spec afterwards.

Yeah. Seems to me H4 cars are pretty well classed already for H4. If someone wants to take an H4 car and go play with the Time Attack boys they should expect to be at a disadantage if they don't bring some extra horsepower. It's nice enough that the Redline guys aren't making HC cars put their interiors back in. Expecting further rule changes to help IT-engined cars is really asking too much.
Thanks for thinking of us, Nik. It'll be interesting to see who shows up...

Yeah, I don't know what all this bickering is about anyway. How much work do you really want to do for a second or third place finish. The win will not be available.
Sorry,

I can see them not enforcing weight, althought they should. But you would need to remain N/A. If you're no longer N/A your no longer H1 either.
Hey, wait a minute! Wasn't the Unlimited FWD time of 1:57.425 set by Bernardo in the Integra running N/A?

We've only ran one TIME ATTACK at buttonwillow.
The current MOD FWD 1st place from our December Time Attack is a Civic with a 2:02.728
Right now in the Modified FWD class, there is one Scion tC registered: http://www.redlinetimeattack.com/index-5c3.html
If you H4 and H1 guys wanted to have it out at this Time Attack, then you'll be haveing your own little battle for fastest time with no obstruction on track. Clean laps to see who has the fastest lap time. Could be fun

Re: (SuperKool)
That's what you get when you deal with racers. Give em an inch, and the rules go to hell. So basically now any HC car can show up and run with any mods in either Modified FWD or Unlimited FWD. I just hope someone steps up so Rado has some competition in Unlimited. It would be sad to see all of the HC guys duck into Modified because they were scared of the Scion.

Yes, I believe it was an N/A Integra that set that time in Unlimited.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I was riding shotgun when that time was set. That car has a little time left in it too. If I had an H1 car I think I'd go for Unlimited. It's a much more respectable loss.

Andy,
Are you implying that I'm asking too much?
I didn't ask them to change the rule. I ask them to clarify the rule. If H1 car, like mine, meet the current modified rule, what prevent me running modified?
Modified allows guttting, but I have to have full glass, which I have, and center console, which I put in on time attack. I met those rules, why can't I run in Modified, you tell me!
Now, the redline guys choose to allow H1 into Modified. I actually disagree with this. Because an H1 car prepared to the limit allows lexan, which is not aligned witht he Modified rule. Since redline doesn't have minimum weight, those H1 cars that run lexan can take their ballast off and run lighter than me.
I also have another reason not to run Unlimited as they allow Hoosier tire. I don't want to buy Hoosier. And because Toyo been very supportive of Honda Challenge racers and me personally, I am supporting Toyo as well.

Re: (Andrie Hartanto)
I think you should run in Modified FWD, but you may want to add a supercharger and NOS, Andrie. That'll give you your best shot at winning something. Please don't think I was picking on you individually though. I really wasn't, before now.
And I agree with you that rules clarification would be nice. But this isn't racing. It's time attack. It's not about being fair. It's about building something bad ***, and showing it off. Just relax and enjoy it. You are fast and your car is clean. Don't worry. You'll get in the magazine.
Oh, and before you fry a microchip, let me be frank. I have no point. I'm only here to instigate.

Thanks Andy. I'm all about friendly banter. It only does good thing IMHO, create some drama and rile people interests up.
However, don't let the last weekend win get into your head. You were the only one in your class.
****, what am I doing getting into some drama. I'm not even sure if I'm going to make it!
