I suppose I should be used to it by now, but I'm currently suffering from my typical post-christmas blues...

I always put a good amount of time, thought, and money into the gifts I give. Year after year though, I'm left disappointed with my own. If I went home and threw everything away tonight, there isn't a SINGLE thing I'd miss.

One year my wife wanted to give up and stop giving gifts because she could never find anything I liked. This infuriated me... still does. Maybe I'm "hard to buy for", but I don't accept that as an excuse.

Pondering whether I should stop participating in gift-giving, or find a new wife...

Nakedness tends to make for a good time, no matter what day of the year it is.

My wife surprised me with an 8000 lb rated electric winch for the trailer! I guess she didn't want to have to help me pull the car up on the trailer w/ tie-downs anymore. Parents got me a $200 gift card to sears.

let's see,
I got a wine rack for the dining room,
a wine refrigerator for the basement,
a guitar from my dad. A right-handed guitar. I'm left handed.
a book of songs to play on the wrong-handed guitar
a set of wooden salad bowls
a new chammy
a new car wash mitten.

guess that means that I am a right-handed, guitar-playing wino who likes to wash cars? sounds about right -- for a country song anyway.

No car stuff this year for me. I told everyone that I bought my Christmas AWD toy last month and I needed nothing.

So I got books, DVD, etc.

Will have to buy a SA helmet with some of the money I got.

Jeff,
Come on man, Christmas isn't about you. If you give thoughtful gifts, good for you. That's awesome. That's what it's about.

Me? I asked for nothing from Mrs. johng. I seriously don't really need anything. If I want something, I'll just go buy it for myself. Besides, I've been spending a lot of money lately, so there's no need to spend more on **** I really don't need.

I still got some new gear wrenches and pliers though. Family gave us cash and workplace year-end bonuses worked out pretty good for Mrs. johng, so the new kitchen looks like it's gonna happen pretty soon.

From the folks I got the typical 2 pairs of jeans and a pack of socks....and in a sorry attempt to reduce my trips to the bar, a $20 gift card to the local coffee shop, and a years supply of gum to tell me that I have bad breath and I should quit smoking. My Dad also got me an original copy of "Gone in 60 Seconds".....which brought me exactly 124 minutes of enjoyment. The neighbor up the street got me a $100 sears card and a case of beer....I guess I'll start talking to him more than I talk to my parents.

Pat, who wonders what ever happened to the days when Santa would show up and leave a pile of GOOD presents under the tree......and also wonders what happened to the damn tree!

Well, that's kinda the point. Don't bother spending the money if you're not going to put some thought into it. I don't care about the "stuff". The best gift anyone ever gave me cost $10.

Yes, I'm whining, and I'm definitely an easy target, but I know I'm not alone... I'm fed up with the Christmas of socks and sweaters and gift certificates - the holiday where more and more it's just about spending the money than the thought behind it.

I don't have kids, so I'm not in that "enjoy the kids enjoying christmas" place. That's probably a good thing... my kids will surely hate me for not participating in the santa claus BS.

I got 1 present this year... yes only 1.

A Belt with a buckle that looks like a car's seatbelt buckle. the buckle has a Honda logo on it but it looks like an old-school GM buckle.one of these

That's it.
Nothing else.

But, then again, that's what happens when you don't buy any gifts for anyone else unless they're under 18 (one nephew and 2 neices)

Don't get me wrong, I think the belt is a really cool idea and I really apreciate the friend of mine that gave it to me. I'm just posting this so you guys with parents / wives / girlfriends know just how good you have it.

I really don't mind it allows me to pool the gifts into one big gift, in this case an extra swap

Considering I am single that wouldn't work.

Sean who is confused... only a couple of months back my family was bribing me to stay in school.
