Default It really felt like a torque wrench...

Mom's always asking me for a "list" of crap I want for Christmas. This year I just went on-line and made an Amazon Wish List and sent her the link. Also pointed her to a few selected web pages without wish lists (like the one with the Longacre toe plates...)

But one gift under the tree really had me stumped. It was in a heavy duty, 30" cardboard mailing tube. Pretty heavy, too. Whatever was in there was one big thing, just sort of "thunking" back and forth in the packing inside the tube. The only thing I could think it might be was a torque wrench. But I'm pretty sure I did not ask for a torque wrench. Sure, I could use a new one. I've had my current cheap-o since high school. But I'm the only one who knows that.

What other tool feels like a torque wrench and has the same shape? I just couldn't think of anything with the same weight that size.

Finally, I opened it and saw what it was: here

So what did YOU get for Christmas???

After a tough qualifying session, nothing puts the fight back in a man (like Thawley) quite like a little taste of the Beef Stick.

In Christmas news, I totally scored a 200+ piece set of dremel bits -- yes! Now I can engrave my name into my dashboard!

Pretty funny story Thawley!

Got some cash toward the HANS, a cordless impact gun. Other usual stuff like cloths, candy, and a wireless PS2 controller!

I haven't opened all my gifts yet... so far only car related item is a IOU note for a new helmet. The two I got to open were a 1 GB thumb drive... eek that musta been super expensive and a progressive scan DVD player.

I tried for quite awhile to think up some funny but not too obvious quip abuot the meat stick (including an attempted quote of Teddy Roosevelt) but just couldn't come up with the right one.

I asked for a DL1 data logger (knew that wasn't happening) and also a set of the Longacre toe plates including whom to buy them from. Instead I got a garage work light instead.

I did get yet another car themed, battery powered clock from my mom to go with the other three car themed, battery powered clocks that she got me in previous years. They're all so tacky that my wife won't allow them in my house and I have a cool lighted Koni clock in my garage so they're all at my office. I can now sit at my desk and know the time no matter which way my head is pointing (and I don't have to take the effort to look down at my wristwatch or computer). At least until all the cheapo brand X AA batteries run out. Maybe I'll put this new one behind my desk so anyone who comes into my office to visit can know the car themed time.

Lol... I told my family that I wanted a set of pads and a set of axles for the CRX since it would really cheap. Well they smacked me across the head for wanting car stuff.

A few years ago, my old beater was getting ready to take a **** on me for the last time, so I'd been looking around for a new car for a while. On Christmas, I opened a package that said to go find my gift in the back of my mom's van. I opened the hatch and found a 5 quart bottle of oil and some other random maintenence stuff.

There was only one thing this could mean. My eyes lit up, and I was almost jumping up and down as I asked, "You guys got me a new car?!!! Holy $@%#!!!"

With baffled looks on their faces, my parents explained that the maintenence items were for my current car. I sure felt like smacking myself then.

Hah.

I got exactly what I wanted. I made it known that I really needed a good tire pressure gauge, ideally a Longacre liquid-filled 0-60. Got it.

And a couple of Caroll Smith books which I also asked for, which are really good!

My parents finally gave up. For the past 2 years I got cash. "We know you want car stuff, but we don't know what to buy". Heck yes.

I got this new Dell sitting on my lap.
I was hoping to get a running CRX as well, but there is a problem somewhere in the wiring that we can't find.
Oh well, if it was easy everyone would do it.

Ditto with a new Dell here too, 'cept it's a desktop that we all get to share, juiced up with XP Professional and a full version of Office. All hooked up to to a cable modem. Get to hit on all those video clicky links now.

The semi car related present was one of those Craftsman 129 piece tool kits in its own carry case. I, prolly like many of us, have collected quite an assortment of mismatched sockets, rachets and wrenches, typically bought piece by piece when the need arose for that particular size. About 7 years ago I did buy a nice tool chest with a rolling base, since I had quite the collection. That was great. Then I went back to the stock category driving the car to events, and no room for that nice lift off chest in the back of the Celica. Back to a little red toolbox, and chaos has ensued. Can never find jack-chit, so everything takes twice as long as it should.

On the wife's side, names get picked and the pickee is supposed to get the picker a $50 present. The in-law that got me this year didn't have a clue what to get me (or on most other things in life too), so he told the wife to tell me to buy whatever I wanted, and he'd kick in the $50. Off to Sears, and picked the tool set of my dreams to get me organized on sale for $79.99. I did have to go the motions of it getting wrapped and opening it in front of the assembled masses.

I was hoping for the household CFO to tell me to go buy that E46 330i ZHP I looked at last week, but that just ain't going to happen.

After detailed explainations on how it works and what it does, I asked both my mom and my wife for a HANS Device thinking they might go in together. Still didn't get one.

I wonder if there's a hidden measage here somewhere?
