Default Rainy commute, fun or pain in the rear??

so, on the way to work today it was raining pretty good. i still have my "summer" tires(615 azenis) on which are pretty low tread at this point(2-3/32s).

i take a 2 lane state road to work and with heavy rain comes the slip and sliding. i can say my better half in the same situation would slow down to a crawl and/or call me complaining of the conditions. or certain friends would be buying tires with the quickness.

but, to me, i am having a blast. i am not pulling out of jason plato like slides or anything "cool" like that, but the car is "dancing" around a bit. maybe the thrill is because it is the closest i get to "the limit" when driving on the street. i don't know, but this is around the 3rd or 4th occurance of this and i hope i get to "play" some more.

i have a feeling i am not alone on this, so that is why i am posting. or maybe to some i am nuts and well maybe you are right.

it is fun, as long as you're on the road alone.
It took me realizing that person in front of you may have a lot more traction and for some random reason may hit their brakes at the last second because they are not paying attention....
I live in the land of distracted drivers, I could total my car at least twice a week with it not being my fault. Way too many ways for it to be my fault if I reduce traction.

try the same tires in the snow. again, you have to be alone on the road.

It is incredibly fun but dangerous as I like to think of myself as Senna. The best commute times I make are always in the rain but my car is also equipped nicely for rain and is very stable. I take it easier on the turns obviously but I still haul *** and have fun. The scariest moment I have had in the rain was when I downshifted to pass someone... now when I downshift to 3rd gear in the dry it chirps but as soon as I went to 3rd and gave it some gas it roasted the tires. So now I'm pedaling it on a 2 lane road and I can see traffic starting to come up. I ended up short shifting it and just powering on it in 4th but it had me going oh ****! While from that I might sound reckless but I make sure I have enough room and give cars extra room in the event of a hydroplane.

lol. my commute isn't around the city. it is a 2 lane, 1 way each way, state road. noone in front of me and a few cars passing the other way at times. driving the speed limit or 5 over and my cell phone was in my pocket. lol.

Thank god your cell is in your pocket and not up to your ear.
Tires keep your car safe so you can track it when your yearly freeze is over.
Me... I dont have that problem of snow on the roads or track.

I daily drive a Subaru and snow puts a smile on my face. I drive what some would call aggressively, I call it efficient.

I am not unsafe and by no means get anywhere near the limit on the street, but I do use the things I have learned from the track, heel toe when appropriate, when traffic is light practice left foot braking, etc.

As someone who dries 140 miles a day... I don't like the rain whatsoever because it always F's up traffic. Rush hour ends up being from 2:30pm to 7pm when it's raining.

YOU'D THINK THAT IN A CITY LIKE SEATTLE PEOPLE WOULD LEARN HOW TO DRIVING IN THE DAMN RAIN!!

I slow down..... because I dont have wipers :/

This was my view for 2.5hrs on my way home from a friends house..

Driving blind, no radio, no heat, and the engine buzzing at 4700rpm the entire time. *shoots self in head*

Thankfully my DD is back up and running, so no more commuting in the civic.

d00d, rain-x that bish!

When traffic doesn't get bad, I like driving in the rain. But then, my car has tires that are good in the rain. I also like driving in the snow when traffic isn't bad, and again I have proper tires for driving in the snow. That said, I do give the drivers around me more room when driving in poor conditions so that I have the time to get out of their way when they run out of talent.

That is for me too. I don't mind driving in any weather as long as I give the "ID 10 Ts" some room. I too find it amazing that people still cannot drive in the rain or snow here in PA. And really if you cannot drive in those types of weather you should be staying home where you are keeping me safe.

luckily my drive is somewhat rural. not anyone next to me, that day there was noone ahead of me. just the occasional car passing the other way.

Stuck in a Desert Storm this past weekend going to NASA in Phoenix, this was the tail end of it or clearest view. Before this i was stuck in traffic going 4mph for 1.5 hours. Couldn't see the car in front of you if they went more then 2 car lengths ahead. Still worth the drive

i love driving in the rain.
as mentioned before, you have to give the other drivers LOTS of room.
but i do that, whatever the weather is like.
