Default OT(kinda...) - Does any practice racing on the computer...

Just having some late night practice with my favortie Kart sim...trying to not get rusty at performance driving while I'm building up the integra...

Anybody else have a sim that works for them when they can't compete in real life?

GT3?

Also just picked up WRC... played that for 2 weeks and then put GT3 back in. What a difference in dynamics... while the graphics in GT3 much better, WRC is just alot of fun

I'm sure a lot of people play the Gran Tourismo series which is a lot of fun. I just picked up Rally Sport Challenge for my X-Box. Great game. I highly recommend it.

Anyone play the F1 game for X-Box?

For F1 2001 on the computer there is a cool FIA sportscar mod which is unbelievable...

FIA Sportscar mod

and there is a JGTC mod also...
JGTC mod field

Vracer111, who would love to run these mods but needs a better computer to do so...which won't be happening for a while since it's either a computer or parts for the racecar.....

The karting program I have is "Super 1 Karting Simulation", very hard to find it - I think only Comp USA has it the US.

The other is EA Sport's "F1 2001" - with the FIA GT mod added.

Ok here's what links I have found:

FIA GT Mod

JGTC Mod

FIA GT and JGTC track updates

...and some eyecandy...

Sunset at San Marino

JGTC GT500 night action

Grand Prix Legends! Best sim I've ever played...imagine driving a 400+ HP car with hard tires, no aero, and enough fuel for an entire Formula 1 race, and that's how much fun GPL is. Physics are very realistic which makes it challenging and fun. I give it , but be prepared to waste many many hours on it--the learning curve is quite steep. Don't forget to wear your helmet!

I have never played a more realistic game than Ferrari F355 Challenge for Dreamcast. It makes GT3 feel like Ridge Racer.
I was playing it last night

I heard a rumor that it is currently being ported to PS2 (for japan only of course)

I play GPL quite ofter I even have robleing road in it and someone is supposed to be making VIR-Full for GPL. GPL Is the best racing sim for a computer hands down. EVen though Nascar 4/2002 uses the same phsyics engine the lighter cars in GPL a definatly harder to drive fast than in nascar.

In the greater Boston MA area, you can race karts on an indoor track in braintree. Infinitely better than a computer game.

On Sunday mornings at 8am we have a group that races for a solid hour for $60. If you live around Boston, you should contact me for these adventures.

arrrgg...this thread could turn ugly if we don't watch it ...lol

GPL is great for what it does...however, I prefer sportscar based sims with newer graphics, as I the newer technology of racing. Sure a Lotus 49 and Eagle are challenging to drive, but that's the nature of cars lacking adequate downforce with not-so-grippy-compared-to-today tires...

I like having this kind of fun (well I really didn't expect to recover from it...and going off at RA like that really is a no-no...lol):

Go to downloads and select the GIF image at the bottom

...SCGT - enough physics to be enjoyable and fun while providing adequate realism.

Been a while since I've worked on my web pages huh...LOL

P.S. - yeah Karting would be loads more intense and fun! I need to go to KartZone one of these days....

Ok, took me a while to find this thread again - search feature is horrible. Check out the information on what used to be called World Sports Cars (WSC)...now known as Racing Legends. Adios GPL...you are but a childs toy to be stepped on when Racing Legends is released.

Here's where you go for Racing Legends information: West-Racing Page

Racing Legends really is going above and beyond even what WSC was to be about! Whooooo HOOOOOOOOOOO!

This will be the software that real racers have been dreaming about for years!

I play F355 all the time, it definitely makes GT3 seem arcadey in comparison. What I really like about it is that it rewards (and punishes) you for precision. I have so much fun with it that I'll do the open lap session for hours at a time just to improve my lap times. My first time out driving a tail happy "Jappy the Wundercar" S2000 in the rain in an autocross I can definitely say my 355 skills helped (although I spun twice anyway).

w3rd!! 355 challenge is the best racing game ever. The arcade version with the panoramic screens is even more realistic (mmmm....anybody up for some D&B tonight?)

I wouldnt say I practice on video games, I take it as entertainment, although I definately try to apply racing techniques to the video game. I guess that could be considered practicing.

other good ones are GT3 (more entertainment than sim)
and Test Drive Lemans
Michelin rally masters is probably the most realistic rally game

anyone played any good, realistic F1 sims? I have heard they are pretty technical but havent played one

I have F1 2001 on the PS2. I find it very difficult, so it's probably pretty realistic. It has good graphics and sound, too. F1 2002 is very similar but with the 2002 team rosters.

I picked up WRC not long ago, l like it but the graphics are disappointing.

I heard a rumor that it is currently being ported to PS2 (for japan only of course)
According to the maker's website the Japan release is set to September 26th of this year..
http://www.sega-am2.co.jp/f355-ps2/
And it will support the force feedback steering wheel just like GT3.
IGN says it will head to Europe, http://ps2.ign.com/articles/356/356447p1.html
Anyway, PS2 has mod chips available nowadays, so you can just play the import if they don't sell it here.

Racing games are the only thing I'm interested in for console gaming.. it's rather sad, really..

I think they call that piracy and I think that's also illegal

F355 Challenge in the arcade RULES! Never played it on the Dreamcast, but my roommate and I tried to make it to the arcade 2-3 times a month to play that. It's funny though, almost everyone else that plays the game always runs the oval. On the rare occasions when you do have someone running a roadcourse, it's fun to totally waste them. Thus, the hot girlfriend over their shoulder has to ask "wow, you just got burned by that kid". The facial expressions are great!

BTW. the ooooooold school Indy 500 game was pretty cool.
