What is this crap?
Re: The Official Formula 1 2015 Season Thread
they should have electric heaters embedded in the rims connected to the battery pack. problem solved. you're saving tons of fuel already behind the SC, might as well charge the batts and dump it in the tyres.
better yet but a resistive material on the inside of the wheel and have electrodes connected to the rim to heat the face of the tyre directly.
brb filing a patent

Re: The Official Formula 1 2015 Season Thread
falcon for FIA prez... great idea with the tyre warmers embedded in the rim. lulz...
How about going back to real racing tires, that don't need their blankies, or don't melt when you push them for more than 2 laps. Must be a simple answer like politics, or improving the show, or something else?
Supposedly the time between VSC & SC was ~33 seconds? even so with the quote falcon posted if Ham's needed 24 seconds minimum, and he only had 19 seconds according to my maths he would've came out right where he did, getting stuck behind the SC for those extra seconds decreased that lead even more.
It's Monaco which is nearly impossible to pass, his tires weren't degrading that bad, but a combination of him questioning the team last year (for not pitting him), and him saying that his tires will get cold seems to have made the team to call him in. I thinks?
Oh, and Lee Diffey's a cornball...
and rita technically only outscored us for the Monaco race (but probably 1 or 2 before)... that's why I said I'm not changing my picks for Spain, and scored quite well... Now I changed some picks for Monaco and didn't score as much.

Giedo has as many points as Alonso does.
And real racing tires love blankies. These Pirellis just HATE to be cycled out of a certain range. They're so finicky.

just watched the race, so yea MB totally fucked Lewis over, not intentionally I don't think so. they just made a mistake, not commen in F1 but it happens.
Vettel's podium reaction was the best "I'm happy" lol

I'm sure Nico thinks he out smarted Hamilton...
After crossing the line Nico was probably screaming of joy after Lewie's mistake... Then plays the good sport by saying he got lucky...
I'm sure he wanted to throw a Vin Diesel line "Winning is winning etc..."

Monaco is a high downforce track and their 2014+ car has a lack of downforce. Their results in Canada will be better.
Overall, I think they hit the 2014 formula pretty well on the nose and also benefited from having the best engine on the grid. They don't have the development money to stay at the front of the grid though and are slowly sliding back to a mid pack team.
Lauda allegedly said (somewhere, I read about it on another forum) that there was a lot of radio chatter during the VSC. From what I understand the team told him to stay out, Lewis questioned it, there was confusion within Mercedes and someone on the team made the call to bring him in.

Anthony Davidson approves of Monaco's 'grid boys'
The controversial tradition of ‘grid girls’ could be over after F1 introduced ‘grid boys’ at the Monaco Grand Prix and surprised more than a few drivers, by replacing the familiar ‘grid girls’ with male models.
Wearing white polo shirts with branding for F1 watch sponsor Tag Heuer, jeans and sneakers, the men stood in front of the cars with placards to mark out the drivers’ start positions.
Four-time world champion, Sebastian Vettel, jokingly offered his opinion.
“Why didn’t we have any grid girls today? What was that?” asked the puzzled German. “You get there and park behind George or Dave. What’s the point?”
Mercedes motorsport head Toto Wolff, whose drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg were lined up on the front row of the grid, said the change had taken him by surprise as much as anyone.
“I have no particular view on this, but I was surprised to see them because we are used to good-looking girls without meaning in any way to be discriminatory,” he said. “If it’s good-looking boys from time to time…”
WEC champion Anthony Davidson said at the time that the move was long overdue.
“It’s old school to have such a concept as grid girls. Surely the world’s moved on? And motor racing should follow quite closely what the rest of the world’s doing in that respect,” he told Reuters in April.
“I think that’s a really nice touch, a modern touch as well, from the WEC to take that aspect of racing away. It is a bit sexist.”

But don't worry, we don't have any expectations from your contributions.
He said he knew "he was lucky and that Lewis was aces was all weekend and deserved the win. He was happy for the win, but gutted for Lewis." Paraphrased but something to that effect. Handled it exceptionally well. It's not like he doesn't know Lew whipped him proper this weekend.

Q: (Ian Parkes - Autosport) Question for Lewis. When that Safety Car situation unfolded, did you not at all question whether to come in or not? Bearing in mind, regardless of the situation with the tyres, track position is ultimately king in Monaco.
Hamilton: You rely on the team. I saw a screen, it looked like the team was out and I thought that Nico had pitted. Obviously I couldn't see the guys behind so I thought the guys behind were pitting. The team said to stay out, I said "these tyres are going to drop in temperature," and what I was assuming was that these guys would be on Options and I was on the harder tyre. So, they said to pit. Without thinking I came in with full confidence that the others had done the same.

In the end it doesn't really matter. He will dominate a few for GP's and take the WDC again this year. I was pissed at the whole at first, but he still has the lead in the standings and with a lot more races to go.

Tim, did you know you can produce a kevlar material that conducts electricity? Electrical conductivity and electric modulus of stable KevlarŽ fiber loaded HAF/NBR rubber composite - Salam - 2011 - Journal of Applied Polymer Science - Wiley Online Library
You could design a electric heater tyre carcass that weighs the same as an existing tyre. It doesn't need to be a great electrical conductor since you want it to get hot.
