Re: The Official Formula 1 2014 Season Thread
"Caterham protege Alexander Rossi gets his first F1 outing of the season this weekend, the American GP2 driver standing in for Kamui Kobayashi in first practice. The American last drove an F1 car at last year's US Grand Prix, since when the cars have new engines and less downforce and have become much more complicated. Unsurprisingly, Rossi admits to being 'a little bit apprehensive because I really don't have any idea what to expect'. Rossi has been in the team's simulator, but that can never perfectly replicate the experience of a real car.
"He said race drivers Kobayashi and Marcus Ericcson 'have been very helpful, and said these are the areas where it's very accurate and these are the areas where it's not so much'. Rossi admits Caterham's struggles this season mean he cannot afford to make any mistakes - 'solely because it hasn't gone well, the last thing the team needs is their reserve driver taking any risks; you kind of have to have a conservative hat on knowing the team is a bit on the back foot'. But he says: 'For every racing driver, the forefront of the mind is lap time so I'll obviously be comparing myself to Marcus. You want to show what you're capable of.'"

Re: The Official Formula 1 2014 Season Thread
speaking of money, let me get this straight
to watch F1, you take a driver, and put him in a suit covered in paid sponsors. he puts a helmet on with more paid sponsors. you put him in a car covered in paid sponsors. he drives on a track where the only things not covered in paid sponsors are the track itself and the runoff area (yet)
then, in order to actually watch the race, I have to watch a channel with paid sponsor commercials (NBC - Nothing But Commercials), and I have to pay for cable service. and then I have to PAY ON TOP OF THAT for a cable package that includes the channel i want to watch?
so i have to watch my sport, covered in ads IN BETWEEN ADS on a channel I HAD TO PAY FOR?
and you ask me if I bought any F1 2014 merchandise so I can play dress up like the guys in the rolling billboards that I saw in between the commericals?
my only question is, does anybody have a cigarette? Preferably a Mild Seven, Benson and Hedges, or a Marlboro.

Bianchi hitting wall at the Canadian GP
"The car is pretty damaged, the rear especially," Marussia's Jules Bianchi tells pit lane reporter Lee McKenzie. "I did a mistake, trying to be on the limit. It's fine. We'll be OK for second practice."

I'm glad there's the Unimas channel on my cable... no commercials at all, but the broadcast is in Spanish... Can't understand most of it, but I did learn what over/understeer is in Espanol several races in a row might I add.
Still beats watching the whole race on NSBSN, they cut to commercials at the most inopportune times... ie radio transmission, passing, etc, etc.
I just flip between the 2 channels during the races.
I'm pissed that TimeWarner has just this week rearranged most of the channels... took me about a half hour to find where they moved NBCSN to... 314?!?!?
Need a Marlboro?
