Re: The Oak Tree has fallen
Kerrigan Smith, director of track operations, said the tree fell on one of two days this month the track was not in use. Nyholm said VIR is open to thoughts and suggestions about how to "honor this old friend," and those ideas should be sent to oaktree@VIRnow.com.

Re: The Oak Tree has fallen
I worked the BMW event last weekend and it was still there. At least I got to see it right before it fell. Not sure if that corner will still be the same.

we have one like that in front of the house, it has to be taken down, it has some sort of disease that causes it to be covered in bowling ball size knots, it's dropping huge limbs, one took out my garage power the other day

Re: The Oak Tree has fallen
same here, this was a beautiful live oak just like that one, but it's diseased and nothing can be done, it just has to go, tree committee took one look and said it's coming down before it kills someone, I think a lot of the reason they are falling is all this rain, the ground gets weak and can't support the trees weight anymore

View last week during NASA's Heatwave event
Saw this post on FB...I know they moved T11A to the otherside but didn't know about T11. I guess now that the Oak Tree is gone, new curbing. Don't think I've witnessed anyone ever get up on the curbing at T11 before. Not sure how safe the worker station is on drivers left as a lot of people go off there. Wonder if they moved the fence back to accommodate the station. Don't think moving the tires up and eliminating some of the run off is a good idea if they did it that way.
