Re: New Speed TC Car? (endlesswinterco)
That's H1 racer Matt Lang-K20a powered integra. Everything is stock except for the Skunk 2 cams & valvetrain. He says it dynos 246whp, 174tq (dynojet).

It's gonna be tough against those K24's and Mazda 6's
Good Luck to Matt

I will be competing in 2 more races in WC... Mid-Ohio and Mosport
It was very hard to compete with these guys... I had no torque out of the corner but had some top end for them till my motor blew! Rod bearings on stock k20 bottom end couldn't take the abuse.
WC did approve a built motor for me and are allowing me to keep my weight of 2450 so this should help allot with top end and torque. I was also running on PIC's which was a terrible idea for this level of racing and showed as my lap times were a bit off pace. Lex Carson the man in charge of Moton USA had a medical emergency and couldn't return my shocks to me in time for the race. So look for a better showing next time

so...... pretty much they just let you run the skunk2 cams instead of the RTR cams?
edit- 87mm bore isn't OEM for k20a, what displacement does that give it?

very nice to hear about the new motor. i was deff surprised to see you trying to compete against the tsxs. since it was only tc i wasn't there in person, but deff pleased to you hear you are running in some more races. ill see you at mosport and mid-ohio. mosport is an awsome track. hopefully your moton problems work out. get her back up and running.

Yes I will have a motor for nationals maybe a k24.

No 87mm is 1mm over it makes it a 2045cc motor. You dont have to run RTR cams is what my understanding is, they just can exceed the size of the RTR cams. Plus they cost liek 2,000 new and Skunk2 is a sponsor and has good engine parts.

i think the K20 for WC is an exercise in blowing motors. RTR spent a lot of time doing it as well as PRIMA racing. I'd suggest getting to that 2.4l motor sooner rather then later.

using a K20 is WC Touring Car is futile. Why would you use a K24 at nationals but not for WC Touring Car? If you want to be competitive in WC Touring Car, you're gonna HAVE to use the K24. Reliability of the K20's have been unsucessful for the most part.
Before you get/buy the pistons, rods, etc. for the K20, since you still have to build the engine, you might as well spend the $$$ and parts for the K24.
that's just my opinion

Pretty much, the new motors don't have the "cushion" that the older motors do.

Re: New Speed TC Car? (vtecjj)
I have a been given engine parts to complete a built k20 and my cost is going to be very low for this build so rather then start over with a K24 and spend a furtune to get it done by early July I am going to run this motor and then sell it complete with the bad *** gearbox it has in it w/carbon clutch
I may even sell the complete car and move to another platform incase anyone wants this car

Matt,
firstly congrats on your first pro race.
We've talked over the phone. I'm going to repeat my advise and just do the K24 right away. With the way the current rule is written, the K20 will not be reliable. Jimmy knows it has he was with me when we ran K20. To continue with a K20 will just mean burning money.
That being said, pro racing is expensive. Any way to save money is a good way. However, going cheap on engine building is definitely not a way to do it. You should get all the best, or it will be like throwing money away.

Re: (Andrie Hartanto)
Andrie I agree we need to go to the K24 ASAP, you were right the rod bearing went the K20 cant handle that much power for such a long period in time.
It was definitly a experience! Much more fun the club racing... I am really looking forward to Mid-Ohio!

Matt, Congrats on hittin' the PRO curcuit, hope to catch you next time. Sorry we missed you this weekend; John Oldt, John Whitaker, Chris Drabouski, Tim Rich and I were looking forward to seeing you race on Mon. We had a lot of fun but it just wasn't the same without seeing our buddy on the track.
If you have time come up to Pocono this weekend and hang out.

What do you mean the rod bearing can't handle the power?

Less 'cushion' in what form? Is lubrication the issue for everyone?

Matt looked like you were having fun out there, but tough bunch to try and hang with. We saw the motor letting go out of 2 and finally the big bang out of 3. Hope it wasn't too costly and looking forward to seeing you back at it the next couple of races.

The Fenton cars looked good, I love the cage in the 4dr SI you drove very nice!
